So I got the urge to build an overdrive pedal, but I need a few parts. So last minute search on Google for an electronic component dealer near me, turned up an address right down the road. I called the place, and the girl on the phone, told me I couldn't show up and order, I would have go through a sales rep. She then asked me if I wanted to be connected to the sales dept. I told her yes. I asked the guy on the phone if they sale variable resistors and if they have diodes. He told me, no, they are just a front. They don't sell anything. I asked what are you a front for? He paused and said, "I don't know..." "But we don't sell resistors."

and with that I hung up. What a weird exchange.

I had a weird experience with trying to research the cost of moving (evacuating from California). I guess you could call it a "front." Every website I went to asked for basic information (location, timeframe, house size, extra stuff, etc) and then shuffled me off to a different website asking for name and phone number in order to get a quotation of any sort. After a week of searching for a way around this infuriating system, I figured I was silencing all unsolicited calls anyway, so what the heck. Then, sure enough, several dozen calls over the course of 2 months. Ugh.

At first I thought you were trying to upgrade your Ford Model-T.

You should have told them that's perfect! You're a back.
