Had an excellent meal with the wife just now. A meal fit for Jehovah!

Scallops quickly fried in butter with garlic and red pepper (not kosher, He will forgive, and the Irish half says it's Friday)
Toasted french bread to sop up the juice
Mixed greens (I love arugula and spinach) with Italian dressing
An IPA and then a cider, and maybe a glass of wine in between (ok, yes, I had that glass of wine)
Truffle chocolate bar squares
Small edible

I'm done, I'm happy. Everything else from here on is just a bonus.

Going to watch a movie and entertain ourselves later. First I'm going to enjoy about 350 AD to 400 AD in Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. Who knew that Arianism used to be dominant?

Looks like a fine fine meal. On a side note - if you've never had Nantucket Bay Scallops...you've got to.

Remember not to wash scallops in water; some of the flavor is a complex sugar which is soluble in water.

I collected bay scallops snorkeling sometimes in Martha’s Vineyard and they were excellent.

By odd coincidence the same genus of bay scallop is native to Baja California Sur Mexico, and I ate them there too.

Unfortunately the Mexicans aren’t as good at correctly processing and storing them.

(Saint Athanasius) was once concealed in a still more extraordinary asylum, the house of a virgin, only twenty years of age, and who was celebrated in the whole city for her exquisite beauty. At the hour of midnight, as she related the story many years afterwards, she was surprised by the appearance of the archbishop in a loose undress, who, advancing with hasty steps, conjured her to afford him the protection which he had been directed by a celestial vision to seek under her hospitable roof. The pious maid accepted and preserved the sacred pledge which was intrusted to her prudence and courage. Without imparting the secret to any one, she instantly conducted Athanasius into her most secret chamber, and watched over his safety with the tenderness of a friend and the assiduity of a servant. As long as the danger continued, she regularly supplied him with books and provisions, washed his feet, managed his correspondence, and dexterously concealed from the eye of suspicion this familiar and solitary intercourse between a saint whose character required the most unblemished chastity, and a female whose charms might excite the most dangerous emotions.

Damn, this is a pretty good story.

I’m currently in Valdez, Alaska and my father ordered the scallops for dinner. Looks good! Sister ordered halibut and wifey ordered the salmon.
Fishing tomorrow!

I've only seen mexicans in mexico eating them uncooked....called Callos....cut into small cubes and soaked in Limon (key limes), thin sliced onion, chiles serrano, cucumber, avocado, Salsa Guichol and tostadas (tostada shells for americans)

Most likely a dish we call ceviche. Using citrus is an actual type of cooking method.

HOLY CRAP! That looks good, well done.

Komputodo, the things that Mexicans call "callo" aren't scallops, they are actually pen shells, genus Pinna.
Sometimes they are called "scallops" by translation error.
"Callo de hacha" = Pinna rugosa
They're good eating however.
The bay scallop in Baja Sur Mexico is called "almeja Catarina"="Catarina clam.
Of course, they aren't clams either.
It's confusing.

Odd factoid: there is a marine snail that is called "Caracol panocha"=pussy snail

How do you know it wasn't Skate tail?

Like the King who once ate Hasenpfeffer and swore it tasted just like carrots.

Just kidding looks good, but you didn't give us the Gordon Ramsey split picture so we could see if they were over cooked or under cooked.
How did the Risotto turn out? Spits it out in a napkin, and says "Damn!"...

I used to hear that many scallops are actually Ray or Skate wings? is this still a thing?
14   clambo   2021 Jul 24, 3:04pm

Scallops in some Chinese restaurants may be skate wings I have heard.
In France I have seen skate on the menu.
They might be okay.
Rays are eaten in Baja Sur Mexico.

Pinna rugosa

Wow.......they look the same......what are they called in the usa? im sure the common name isnt pinna rugosa....or is it?...like "i'd like an order of pinna rugosa". Another popular shellfish are patas de mula which are supposedly "blood clams"...are those served in american restaurants? Also the Almeja chocolata which is a giant sized clam also eaten uncooked like the blood clams. What are those called in the usa?

Ceviche has tomatoes in it and sometimes clamato.
