@Patrick - isn't it amazing what people will accept as true, no matter how obviously false it is? I have (former) colleagues that would repeat it to me unironically. Either they think I'm stupid and they are dutifully repeating bullshit to me, or they are stupid, and dutifully repeating propaganda to me.

People really want to believe the experts.

Just like we know that all the Tumblr Crap of pronouns, dragonkin, demihemisexual, ciswhatever is garbage, they are scared that experts aren't always right and shouldn't always be followed.
