I'm driving around Puget Sound, looking for some place we might want to live.

Initial impressions:

The physical beauty of the landscape is world class.

Almost everyone is white. Kind of striking when you come from the Bay Area, where white people are a persecuted minority.

There is a lot of homophilia and some BLM thug flags, but even so, there are visible Trump supporters and some stores where the owners are actively resisting mask idiocy.

Many of the women are ham beasts with tattoos and purple hair, but still a minority. There are also many beautiful and pleasant women.

The economy is not very good. A lot of towns seem a bit impoverished. Not poor, but not rich.

People are friendlier than in the Bay Area.

Yes, driving up from Bay Area to Grand Coulee area was interesting. Bend was like a slice of California dropped into the Oregon landscape. You go from country to sudden frenzy, crowds, tailgating, impatience, traffic jams, strip malls etc.

We were also disconcerted by the niceness and friendliness, especially around Redmond. After California, your paranoia radars make you think that they MUST have an ulterior motive. White people, but they don't look particularly privileged. Just your routine honkey worker bees, willing to do whatever work is necessary without complaint or martyrdom.

I've always thought some of the smaller mountain towns up there might be interesting, but I don't do well with dreariness. Maybe the eastern side of those states would be ok.

The town of Sequim is in the rain shadow of the Olympic Peninsula, and so gets only the same amount of rain as LA, about 18 inches per year.

Those areas also get the tempestuous frivolity of the jet stream: can go from cold to hot and vice versa in 30 minutes as the jet stream drops and lifts.

It's interesting that Ashland and Medford aren't dreary at all, in spite of being in mountain valley ranges.

If you're retired, and you want cheap living without libtard hassles, then I'd pick the flyover areas. For example, the Great Lakes region offers excellent sailing during the peak season. In addition, it offers access for advanced sailors to the Atlantic and Caribbean (this is more expensive than the lakes due to salt water). Pick a hick town with access to the Saint Lawrence Seaway and you're good to go.

Full disclosure - I've recently learned basic keelboat sailing, and once you are part of the community, you can hook up with some good deals wrt boats, etc.

Patrick if you like forest area and dont mind some snow check out Coeur d'Alene, or if you want to be near boise but in wilderness Payette Lake area is nice to.

@Patrick,

why Pacific Northwest, and not a more reasonable State such as TX, FL, AZ, UT?

It’s beautiful there, but people are stupid. It’s just my impression. Last time I was there, tons of white people crying about lack of diversity and thinks everyone else is bigot. I asked one woman @if you like diversity come live in Compton CA”... she called me names.

It’s just people who seem kind of sheltered. Them legalizing hard drugs makes me think place will be bum town 10 years from now.

One of the couples on 90 day fiancé was living there. They didn’t work out, but the guy…Mike…seemed to be very down to earth.

Some snow is an understatement. It’s amazing gorgeous, but I had a relative who lived there…right on the lake…and they were basically snowed in about two months a year.

The redeeming factor I find about the place is the size of the city…it’s not strictly a small town. I’d have real problems living in a town of say 15,000 people and nothing within a couple hour drive. Andditionally it’s only a 30 minute drive from Spokane which is a decent size city, airport, and so forth. But the snow ons would keep me away.

The young people on my tour smoked, vaped, doped relentlessly. I was with dopers in Berkeley in the day, but nothing like that, especially when you consider dope is multiple times stronger now. One hippie, tatted guy was also a white collar professional, a chemist working for a plastics company. I imagine that Oregon will become a lab rat charnel house with legal narcotics.

Two reasons:

1. I really love rainy weather and hate the sun.
2. No state income tax.

I have some cousins too, but I’m afraid they’re lost in the insanity of the violent left.

My grandparents lived in Spokane, though I only remember a bit from childhood. Went over there on my trip, and it's a surprisingly hip looking place, bigger than I thought as an urban area, and the areas around are alpine and beautiful. I suppose one would have to sample a winter before making a decision. Coeur d'Alene is a hop and a skip and is paradise on earth.

Second that. But I have not been there during the winter.

No State income tax in TX and FL. But yes, it can be sunny and hot here.

I was surprised at the endless tanker trains in Washington, too. They would have engine cars spliced in between. They really use their trains up there.

What they don't have in income tax in Tx they make up in property taxes. You probably don't get a raise every year, but if your home keeps going up every year, which doesn't do you any good, you're going to be taxed accordingly.

And lots of snowblowing during the off season, just to get a pack of luckies and a sandwich.

My RE taxes were decreasing last 2 years but this year I will get reamed by 10% increase.

A lot of guys up in the northwest solve the winter rain and cold problem by migrating to Baja Sur Mexico in the winter.

I forgot - another reason I considered moving to TX is because my brother lives there, but when I visited him, he told me about his outrageous property tax and said he was going to retire and move back up to Michigan.

I’d do Wisconsin honestly. The people are super nice. You can get land for next to nothing. Summers aren’t overly humid. If you’re near Milwaukee you’ve got a major airport. Kohler is a nice area in WI. Wausau is a more rural area, but there is a regional airport there. Stay away from Madison or the Dells.

I mention airports because during the shit winter months, Dec to March you should just travel to a warmer area. You’d live like a king in rural wisconsin.

He's in Houston for now.
24   BayArea   2021 Jun 21, 6:57am

Dreary, high rates of depression, lots of fat pale whites with purple hair.

I couldn’t, but if you don’t like the sun, doesn’t sound bad.

Houston was a fine city until about 2010, but then influx of millenial libtards from CA and their voting patterns started turning it into a congested shithole city. However, you can buy a small plot of land and a house in Austin county (NOT Austin city, which already is a shithole city) which is 30-40 min from Houston and where people are nice and taxes not too exorbitant.
