What does the character of Kevin Spacey mean when he says, "There is no right or wrong but only in or out". I haven't watched this TV show, so asking for your interpretation.

Here is the complete quote:
And you have all enjoyed it, been party to it and benefited by it.
Oh, don't deny it. You've loved it. You don't actually need me to stand for something. You just need me to stand.
To be the strong man. The man of action.
My god, you're addicted to action and slogans. It doesn't matter what I say. It doesn't matter what I do. Just as long as i'm doing something, you're happy to be along for the ride.
And frankly, I don't blame you. With all the foolishness and indecision in your lives, why not a man like me? I don't apologize.
In the end, I don't care whether you love me or you hate me, just as long as I win.
The deck is stacked. The rules are rigged.
Welcome to the death of the Age Of Reason.
There is no right or wrong. Not anymore. There's only being in...and then being out".

Sounds like sexual intercourse.

Truth, facts, the law, don't matter anymore. It's all about raw power. If you have principles you will get steamrolled by the people that have been driving the political machine for decades. If your IN you have the power to define the facts, suppress the truth, and use the law as a weapon.

If you're OUT, good luck with those principles.

Kevin Spacey is a power hungry unprincipled slime-ball. So is the character he played.

The show often showed Spacey around pictures of LBJ, so LBJ was likely one of his main inspirations. It's hard to evaluate psychopathic soliloquies of fictional characters because they are devoid of attachment to actual events, so they are modeling of psychopathy for affect.

The original British 'House of Cards' is pretty good for gadding about with the psychopathic mental masturbations of the main character. Probably one of the best fictitious explorations of political power, cynicism and psychopathy is the largely forgotten show about the Chicago mayor (portrayed by Kelsey Grammer) called 'Boss'. Grammer's character was never more dangerous than when he was in casual civilian clothes, pretending to be an Everyman type, to disarm people behind the scenes and plan murders and intimidations with his private goons.

Kevin is saying that its not about reason. Its about whether you believe or not in the ideology of the tribe (political party, labor union, religion.....etc) irrespective of what is right or wrong.

Example: We saw Lynn Cheney getting sidelined lined because she went outside the ideology of her tribes. Kamala got chosen over Tulsi because she was in (to the ideology of the party). Biden is a strong in-man (has been in the party ideology for many decades therefore was considered the right candidate).

In Islam, the punishment for going outside the ideology (changing religion) is death.

In a labor union, the employees believe in solidarity (irrespective of whether the employer is right or wrong). They strong arm the employers using the power of strikes.

I was very much enjoying that show until I learned Kevin is a pedo.

Exactly. His pedo-ness ruined it for me. I never want to see that boy-fucker again. I will not view anything he is in.

Nice phoney equivalence. Lynn Cheney is only where she is because of who her father was, and then sold out. Kamala got her start in politics by sleeping with the right person, and was not "chosen" but did so bad in the Dem primary she dropped out before the first vote.

Remember, Trump won the Republican primary as a complete outsider. So we have at least one example of buckling the "tribe." In 2024, Tulsi may surprise a few insiders by beating them.
