and he mocked course loads in “sports marketing,” “advanced racist spotting” and “You Owe Me An Apology 101.”

I don't agree with everything Bill says, but he's often right on target.

Bill Maher attended Cornell University, where he double majored in English and History, and graduated in 1978. Maher has said, "Selling pot allowed me to get through college and make enough money to start off in comedy."

Have to agree with Bill. Cornell grifted him.

Bill is really hilarious.

Getting a generalized classical education might be nice and might also be beneficial for many. But it won’t help pretty much at all with most jobs or careers. Every job and profession is a trade, and each requires different trade skills. Sadly, most degree programs don’t get you more than 50% of the way towards being prepared to do a particular trade, and even that much preparation isn’t usual. Most of the skills you need to do your job you learn on the job. Whether that’s an unpaid internship, a residency, a specialized school with practical application, an apprenticeship, or just a seat-of-the-pants trial by fire in the job you want where you basically fake it until you make it... college won’t get you there.

Yes it is.

It's the only discipline which is entirely logical and coherent.

People only think it's difficult because they think logic and coherent thought is "hard". It's not, however, we are bullied and pushed into irrationality.

Don't think you're immune to propaganda, misdirection, miseducation, etc - we all are subject to this, and we all fall victim to it. We are INTENTIONALLY given bad education, purposely. We are consistently, perpetually, pushed into illogical thinking.

George Carlin would agree with you.

"But I'll tell you what they don't want. They don't want a population of
citizens capable of critical thinking. They don't want well-informed,
well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They're not interested in
that. That doesn't help them. That's against their interests.

"You know what they want? Obedient workers - people who are just smart enough
to run the machines and do the paperwork but just dumb enough to passively
accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer
hours, reduced benefits, the end of overtime and the vanishing pension that
disappears the minute you go to collect it." - George Carlin

“Advanced Racist Spotting” and “You Owe Me An Apology 101” are perfect descriptions of what students are being taught now.

Higher education is what a person, who's already in a licensed trade (i.e. electrician, plumber, etc), should do to get some white collar prestige in society.

In other words, be able to show up in a jacket and tie and speak to the facilities management and other BS artists who can't get the work done but have this ahem ... expertise in budgeting, etc.

Aside from the above, it's basically just a way to segue into an office job which requires a BA.

That's when what we have now started.

Any underwater hands-on work is useful for a future career in underwater welding for offshore rigs and platforms.

Cornell prepared Maher well for being a short sighted, opportunistic, situational asshoe. What more could you expect from an edumacation.

Bill Maher has had these aholes who promote this crap on his show for the past 2 decades. They all snicker and crack jokes about conservatives with him. He's full of crap. Any way the wind blows.
