Maybe California and Texas aren't so different after all.

“Where are we supposed to go?” said Danielle Ostrowski, an attorney who works in Fort Worth, adding that the couple has already sold its previous home and needs to move somewhere by June 16. “We were counting on that contract.”

She does not seem to be a very good attorney.

LOL! How do you say 'Fuck You' in developer and real estate language: "Trust me."
4   komputodo   2021 Jun 4, 11:10pm

should have just bought a fixer upper in WACO and had Chip and Jo do it up.

I am surprised that this is the first time we have heard of this happening.

Only happens when prices shoot up between contact signing and house completion. Not common.

They said the buyers were difficult. Could be partially true. Never buy a home that isn't ready to move in (sellers out) or that you're not building yourself. They jacked up the price by 100k, doesn't seem much additional gain for the whole company and they may have to recustomize parts now for the next buyer, so I'm sure there was more to the story. Builders usually like to sell as early as possible and front-load the money, a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush.

That's more than enough to motivate any contractor to do this. I'm not sure who is worse, real estate agents, or contractors.

Not sure either. My buddy who is renovating his 2nd large purchase has plenty of contractor horror stories, such as taking the trash out and "inspecting" the place briefly for $14k. One does have recourse though in CA as they can lose their license quickly for malpractice, but you need a lot of money to front. But I would think the builder doesn't need negative press for 100k assuming they are a large corp. We tried to get $8-$10k from the seller as we knew cleaning the crawlspace and fixing appliances etc. would add up. We got $4k but went with it as there was a backup offer. It's been a sellers market almost everywhere for a while now, except for big urban leftoid shitholes.

Builders are like realtors. It’s the insidious industry of assholes that AF used to rage about.

Since they never had their "dream home" were they ever really a "Ft Worth family"?
13   Ceffer   2021 Jun 5, 2:21pm

Never had their 'dream home'. They just presumed they had it before the fact.

Actually, she's a double moron for not realizing how bad she looks as a lawyer and thinking twice before going to the press about it.

We had a lawyer sue the Cab Company because she claimed a driver ran her off the road. She lost in court and then threatened to take it to the local TV Station "10 on Your Side" news bit that is an advocacy for the downtrodden. I have dealt with lawyers and been in court many times for the cab co and my real estate rentals. What I have found about typical attorneys is they are shamelessly unprepared and have an unbelievable entitlement mentality.

This sort of thing is the reason I used a lawyer instead of buyers' agent ®ealtor when purchasing.

Two completely different jobs. A Realtor does not and never did handle a closing. Only a lawyer or a title company can do the closing.

All a Realtor does is find a buyer, period.

I have to wonder how many changes they asked for.

I know some people in San Antonio who had a custom house built. It was a giant pain in the ass and took 3 years but just completed. They didn't get screwed over like these people - price of new house never changed.

Meanwhile their existing house value went through the roof and they made out like bandits.

Right. During their “many” visits to the location. WTF? They probably acted totally crazy.
21   clambo   2021 Jun 7, 6:30am

I guess they have to find another “dream home.”
The whole business sucks.

Dream Home is a fitting description because it was only in their dreams.

All my dreams of sexually ravenous, beautiful women approaching me for zipless sex never came to fruition. I lived, so can they.
