As the new coronavirus COVID-19 spreads in the U.S., people who are well want to stay that way. But since no vaccines are currently available, the strongest weapons Americans have are basic preventive measures like hand-washing and sanitizing surfaces, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The simplicity of those recommendations is likely unsettling to people anxious to do more to protect themselves, so it’s no surprise that face masks are in short supply—despite the CDC specifically not recommending them for healthy people trying to protect against COVID-19. “It seems kind of intuitively obvious that if you put something—whether it’s a scarf or a mask—in front of your nose and mouth, that will filter out some of these viruses that are floating around out there,” says Dr. William Schaffner, professor of medicine in the division of infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University. The only problem: that’s not effective against respiratory illnesses like the flu and COVID-19. If it were, “the CDC would have recommended it years ago,” he says. “It doesn’t, because it makes science-based recommendations.”

The science, according to the CDC, says that surgical masks won’t stop the wearer from inhaling small airborne particles, which can cause infection. Nor do these masks form a snug seal around the face. The CDC recommends surgical masks only for people who already show symptoms of coronavirus and must go outside, since wearing a mask can help prevent spreading the virus by protecting others nearby when you cough or sneeze. The agency also recommends these masks for caregivers of people infected with the virus.

And now the CDC is saying this!
“ The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Thursday that people who are fully vaccinated do not need to wear masks or engage in social distancing while outdoors or indoors. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky explained that except in a few special circumstances, vaccinated people can resume normal life completely.”

But conservatives be like:

Combination of fear brainwashing and righteousness.

Because most people make decisions based on emotion, not logic. They need to believe that they're doing something, anything, to help out. They can't accept the notion that they may be powerless to affect the outcome of some event.

Others run on erroneous assumptions. You'll see people say things like "then why do doctors wear masks, huh smart guy?" While not understanding that the masks were originally created as source control for bacteria which is a much different animal than a virus.

Then there's the people that will defend the flip-flopping hypocrisy to their graves. No matter how many times Fauci, the CDC, NIH, etc are completely and utterly wrong, these people STILL follow their advice. Usually the excuse is that "of course they change their minds when new information becomes available. It's the SMART thing to do!" while completely ignoring the fact that the information they were feeding people was known to be wrong from prior study or investigation. Or that being wrong over and over again might be a key indicator that the person or organisation simply doesn't have a clue as to what they're talking about. They're allowed to make error after error and still retain trust, but if anyone who counters them is wrong on even on single detail about one single claim, they are to be immediately and forever discredited.

Learn to identify these types of people. No amount of logic, reason, or science will ever persuade them to change their minds, because the stance was formed on emotion. Ignore them and move on.

Herd mentality, pluralistic ignorance.

On the recent trip across NoCal, Oregon and Washington high desert, mask conformity was spotty at best. Some areas, including our resort in upstate Washington, had no masks at all in the small town. Only one ranger station gift shop and one quick mart required them. If you didn't wear one, some wouldn't remind you. Some small fast food places allowed inside dining. The big franchises mostly didn't, but some allowed inside pickup and rest rooms. Water fountains were about a third running at rest areas rather than being all shut off.

All in all, it seems compliance is crumbling.

Which is why Bezos was on the phone with Ron Klain this morning. "Get that Alzheimer's Patient to issue a tweet, dammit! She's taking me to the cleaners!"

I'm surprised they took this long. I was expecting that they would declare the plandemic over as soon as the massive election fraud got Biden into the White House.

But I can see that there are probably different factions of the administration fighting about it.

Faction A: Wants eternal fear, masks, and shutdowns to have eternal vaccine profits and a nice excuse to violate everyone's Constitutional rights each day.

Faction B: More realistic about the fact that the economy is crippled by Fraudulent Fauci's fear-mongering. They rightly see their own wealth at risk.

I'm going to miss the fact that masks made even ugly dudes like me looked good.

Ugly is no hinderance to men.

Plenty of ugly men do very well with the women, who are just looking for confidence and money, and maybe muscles.

And height. If you don't have height, that kinda sucks.

On the tour I took, the younger 'uns were so vaped and stoned, some of them mumbled like old homeless gomers. We didn't wear masks, but if we did, I doubt I would understand half of what they said. I was offered pot and hash pipes a couple of times. Some of them were employed and educated professionals. The tour wasn't cheap, so a few trust fundies in there.

I don't know if it is Covid despair, but I am surprised, even coming from Santa Cruz, at the near universal vaping, tobacco smoking and stoning in the 30 plus and under crowd. Seeing twenty year olds smoking cigarettes doesn't make me happy. When the tour stopped at locations, they all hopped out and started fixing right away. A few of the olders would smoke joints, too, but I already knew that from Santa Cruz.

I wonder if I was like that in the olden days when I smoked pot. The stuff is so much stronger now.

Have you looked around the past few decades? Majority of people in America don't know shit about health. This is the natural outcome of abdicating all personal responsibility, and trusting an expert with your health. People have started coming around, but many have yet to hit rock bottom, and will likely die before they do. The last three people we personally knew who died were all premature, all due to poor personal health decisions.

You see, even if you decide to forgo your responsibility, you're still responsible for that decision. The person to blame will always be you, no one else.

I'd say all you have to be is mostly thin as a physical requirement and dress decently. Body weight exercise or light weights, high reps, but generally just move. The muscle thing is generally only for the gym rats that want to meet female gym rats that share their hobby. Being muscular is not fit necessarily either. Know someone I'll see 2-3 times a year who is basically confined to a wheelchair because of working out. His wife was a gym rat and that's how they met.

Also, if your wife ever joins CrossFit and you don't with her, you'll likely end up divorced. Should be properly called DivorcedFit. I know upwards of 10 couples it has done in. Probably other issues, but common theme was the wife joining CrossFit. Didn't matter if the husband was in shape either.

Even height can be overcome with status. I had a friend who was in the Coast Guard, great shape, very short like 5'5", and a DJ. Did not do any drugs and on a night out, maybe had a beer or two at best

His apartment was lined with VHS tapes of home performances from scores and scores of hot chicks.

DGAF and radiating Fun Energy is a huge turn on to young chicks. Nothing is more repellent than Desperation or Negative Vibes.
