These are abstracts of NIH projects that were funded in China, and they look at bat coronaviruses. I do not see in these abstracts any "gain of function" studies, e.i. messing with genetics, but I may be wrong about this as I do not know enough in this field.
"Develop predictive models of bat CoV emergence risk and host range. A combined modeling approach will include phylogenetic analyses of host receptors and novel CoV genes (including functional receptor binding domains); a fused ecological and evolutionary model to predict host-range and viral sharing; and mathematical matrix models to examine evolutionary and transmission dynamics. 3. Test predictions of CoV inter-species transmission. Predictive models of host range (i.e. emergence potential) will be tested experimentally using reverse genetics, pseudovirus and receptor binding assays, and virus infection experiments across a range of cell cultures from different species and humanized mice."
Nothing obvious but they could have used engineered viruses vs. human cell lines.
Yeah, the others are about the same. They are very general (abstract) and don't go into specific details of what they did. Hard to say...
This is the spookiest part to me: "and receptor binding assays, and virus infection experiments across a range of cell cultures from different species"
Fauci will rapidly start disappearing from Mass Media. In a few months, it will be like he never existed.
In the past few years, we've seen the Media beat a hasty retreat without fanfare when a long promoted bullshit story is irrefutably refuted (only to move on to other bullshit).
May be you can make sense of this: https://reporter.nih.gov/search/4L_SNAiDo0ia0Tj-q4KCow/projects
