I'm kind of surprised he lasted as long as he did. A lot of powerful people were very upset with him.

His associate was not so lucky:

Madoff business associate drowns in his pool
Jeffry Picower, a Florida philanthropist alleged to have extracted billions from Bernard Madoff's investment scheme, drowned in his pool Sunday, police said.

Uh huh, an accident, I see. And they want me to believe that Epstein killed himself too.

I have a friend here who is a widow.
Her husband lost mega bucks from Madoff.

The story is not quite so simple; “You can’t cheat an honest man.” Her husband was not a NYC Sanitation employee, rather a professional.

She’s constantly worried about money now; I don’t know if he bought life insurance, she was his second wife and his children were adults.

I think all of Madoff's investors were very well aware he was a sleazy scammer. They were fine with that, because they all thought he was cheating other people.

Kind of the definition of the Ponzi scheme. Get out from the top of the pyramid with your ill gotten gains before it collapses.
