The following is a list of Saints that are Holy Unmercenaries (in Greek, οι Ανάργυροι, literally without silver), or those Saints that were physicians by trade, but used their training to heal everyone free of charge, and used their faith in Christ to spread the Gospel. ...

I love this idea - Christian doctors who went around treating the poor for free.

Why don't we have this nowadays?

And the name is kick-ass: "Holy Unmercenaries" Who wouldn't want to join such a group?

There are loads of Christian groups that provide health and support services to the poor in the US and around the world.

Catholic Charities is one of the biggest charitable groups in the world.

One of my great uncles was a missionary in South America and spent years helping set up water and sanitation systems for poor tribal groups.

Rand Paul and lots of religious doctors routinely donate time each year providing free services to the poor.

Yes, but are there actually doctors who treat the poor for free?

We do. Doctors without Borders. Lots of Catholic/Franciscan priests are also doctors working in poor countries. Dr Rand Paul (yep, that Rand Paul) has done trips to Haiti to perform eye surgery for free for hundreds of patients.

It's good that they travel to poor countries, but I was thinking about doctors among the homeless here.

The problem with providing services here is that you can't lower the standard of care or liability much, so 'free' is still expensive (and risky) just for insurances, auxiliaries, materials, equipment and overhead for liability.
It's one of the reasons that doctors and other professionals donate their services overseas instead of domestically.

We have that in my area. Every year volunteer dentists open the "Lackey Clinic" near Yorktown and do free dental work for low income people. I am surprised California does not not have a plethora of "free clinics." If I recall, those free clinics were common in the 1980s. I remember some military doctors telling us about their free clinic volunteer work, and the horror stories of the types of VD they had to work on.

Good to hear. Now they just need to adopt the name "Holy Unmercenaries".

True but even that org gets infiltrated with woke shit. I'm skeptical of all of them although they're def among the best, much better than the bought and paid for red cross white cross who shills.
