If they were, the heavy equipment would be on the other side of the canal, pulling the ship away from the shore on the other side.
They would also have a bunch of tug boats pulling along, and if they needed to remove dirt from the beached side, they would be using a dredging rig to pump the sand under the ship away from it, and up on the banks. Stock up on Charmin again Y'all, they are going to make damn sure gas is $10 a gallon, and there is a premium on everything.
But people will just top buying shit they don't absolutely need, and if they aren't consuming, then they wont be driving. Like we see every time gas over $400 a gallon.

Hmm sounds like they are going to deploy a dredger like I'm talking about, and there has been Tug boats, but I still say the need to pull it from the other side of the canal with earth movers as well.

It's fucking Egypt we're talking about - not exactly a beacon of organizing prowess and industrial ingenuity.
3   Patrick   2021 Mar 26, 1:00pm

Interesting though.

Maybe it was in fact deliberate. I'm sure some people made money off of this. Maybe people who run alternate shipping routes.
4   Automan Empire   2021 Mar 26, 1:04pm

My quip on this was that if it happened in Alaska, locals would have mobilized mining equipment and had the ship refloated and half the canal deepened before sundown.

I'm surprised to see only one dredge, and one extension backhoe on site. Why the hell isn't every digger, dump truck, dredge barge, oxcart, and man with a shovel in a 500 mile radius getting expedited to the scene?

Because apparently the company that operates the boat isn't being fined a million dollars an hour for their fuck up which they ought to be. If there's nothing to be lost, there's no reason to fix the problem, is there?

This may be a ploy to drive up energy prices in Europe and to gain support for the stupid Syrian war which apparently is to put in a pipeline for fossil fuels to Europe.

Makes you appreciate America just a little bit more. We might have rednecks, but our rednecks can get some shit done, and go out and bust their asses to fix things when they go wrong.

Looks like the hookers in South African ports are going to be getting an uptick in biz.

Wish I could invest in S. African hookers.

I suppose they are "publicly traded", lol.

Now this makes me think it really was deliberate:

Why don't they just release all the children into the desert to lower ballast?

Haha. Having lived in Silicon Valley, and having grown up in the sticks with a bunch of rednecks - rednecks are far more preferable.

There's nothing wrong with rednecks. I've crossed both sides and understand each group quite well. Don't be judgemental, don't sneer, and don't be offended by them whatever they say. What do you care what somebody thinks about you that doesn't even know you?

You know where the thin skinned snowflakes almost entirely come from? Non redneck area.

An irritation with white collar professionals is that rednecks properly regard them with suspicion. Get rid of every redneck, we're fucked. Get rid of ever white collar professional, and all the irritating bullshit redtape suddenly will go away. White collar people are the useless eaters, not them.

But how do you know its true? Some picture? Better find a website tracking these ships and find it yourself.
14   Ceffer   2021 Mar 26, 10:25pm

These large scale industrial things are usually resolved rather quickly. I would also think the Suez Canal has many contingency plans for emergencies.

So, one ponders, what is the delay? Maybe very powerful people don't want anybody finding out what is on board, and the sabotage was deliberate exactly to cause an examination of what was on board?

Trafficking? Bigga Badda Bomb, like the one in Beirut that looked like a mini-nuke? Weapons, drugs, human cargo etc. etc.? Who has to go around the Cape to get their ships into the Mediterranean through Gibraltar that need blocking? Dress rehearsal for Suez blockade?

That and ships are routinely in holding patterns at canals and ports. You’d have to look where other ships are as well to see if it was a prank with the Dick pattern. Could have just been what they had to do while waiting to gain entry to the canal.

I’d also call it massive balls with a midget penis.
17   Ceffer   2021 Mar 27, 2:11pm

Draws penis and balls and then suffers from Suezis Captivus going up the canal. Maybe a bucket of cold water.

like @Ceffer mentioned, perhaps there is something on the ship that masters took the control over that buys time to search and find.

Because it's in a shithole country.

I'm still wondering if the boat Captain was drunk.
24   Booger   2021 Mar 28, 6:42pm

Perhaps the boat has information that would lead to the arrest of Hillary Clinton.

I haven't seen the western press be accurate, or even truthful, in over a decade. It's a complete waste of time to even listen to any predictions made by them, and quite often, anything they claim.

Essentially, Egypt is totally unprepared for this / equipment doesn't doesn't exist.

That was the point for me making this post. If that ship was stuck in that canal for months or weeks on end, then we aren't the same species that built Civilization.
We've evolved into something incapable of building a decent stick hut much less the pyramids.
I can't believe that it took almost a week. They put on a show for the media on the wrong side of the canal with a few heavy equipment machines.
29   Eric Holder   2021 Mar 29, 10:48am

Suez Canal was once closed for 8 years (1967-1975) and nothing horrible happened. One week is less than nothing. It's all media hysterics, nothing more.

I seem to recall the oil embargo of 1973 and 1974.

Not caused by Suez blocade per se.
