eBay is facing backlash after removing listings of used copies of the six Dr. Seuss children books that will no longer be published because they are considered “insensitive.”

Two days ago, Dr. Seuss Enterprises, the company responsible for reprinting his books, announced that it would stop reprinting six books because they contain racial stereotypes. The six books are: The Cat’s Quizzer, If I Ran a Zoo, McElligot’s Zoo, Scrambled Eggs Super!, And to Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street, and On Beyond Zebra.

Dr. Seuss Enterprises’ announcement was met with criticism, with people calling it another example of cancel culture.

Realizing that the six books would soon become rare, people who own the books started listing them for sale on eBay at exorbitant prices. The price of a Copy of “If I Ran the Zoo” went as high as $510 after 54 bids.

However, on Thursday, eBay began removing listings of the books. An email to sellers claimed that the listings were removed for violating the online store’s “Offensive material policy.”

eBay’s move was met with heavy criticism on social media. The online store is being accused of censorship, tech book burning, and virtue signaling.

“You can’t make this stuff up. @eBay is blocking my listings of @DrSeuss’s “The Cat’s Quizzer” & citing it as offensive material. Yet anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan’s books are okay? #cancelcancelculture.” one angry Twitter user wrote. ...

“You can buy Mein Kampf on eBay easy, but you can’t buy Dr. Seuss books,” another Twitter user wrote. “Virtue signaling tires me out dude.”

People angry at the cancellation of the book also pointed out that President Biden did not mention Dr Seuss on Read Across America Day, which is held annually on the deceased author’s birthday. Former presidents, including Obama and Trump, recognized Theodor Seuss Giesel’s contribution in the children’s books in their proclamations every year.

“[Dr Seuss’] tales challenge dictators and discrimination. They call us to open our minds, to take responsibility for ourselves and our planet,” Obama said in his Read Across America Day proclamation in 2014.

In Trump’s proclamation in 2018, he encouraged Americans to “always remember the still-vibrant words of Dr. Seuss: ‘You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.”

The White House is yet to explain why Biden left out Dr. Seuss in his proclamation on Read Across America Day.

Maybe I'll start a politically incorrect book site.

I remember when Amazon was just for selling books. I bought a copy of Darwin’s Black Box from Amazon in 1998.

Looks like they still have it!

Pierre Omidyar is also an asshole. Intercept fired Greenwald after he refused to edit out negative info from a story he had on Biden's side money dealings in October. And Poitras was just canned too. Omidyar also funds anti-cash, digital-only campaigns around the world.

Intercept Editor Reed was brought in by Omidyar in 2015 to try and put a leash on Greenwald and Poitras. She totally fucked Reality Winner, and had her own "Head of Research" investigate Intercept's failure to protect that source, and of course her own henchwoman investigating her found Reed totally blameless. Reed is like the poster child for the degenerate Harvard/Eastern Establishment type. Oh if Cotton/Mathers could see their University today.

I just sold my copies of those 6 books ebay for $2000. Here was my description:

All 6 Banned Books by Dr. Seuss in Excellent Condition!!!. Condition is "Very Good."
The "Very Good" condition is because I wrote the Accelerated Reader number and book level in pen on the publisher's information page of the book (see photo). The Cat's Quizzer has no pen marks. Otherwise the books are in excellent shape. I used them for read alouds to my class (with the overhead projector) and I was the only one who touched them.

Ebay ended my 7 day auction for trying to sell these "hate products," so I'm relisting with a "Buy It Now" price of the last bid I received. Hopefully one of the bidders of the cancelled auction will make their way to this one!

If you've got a copy of any of the above titles, put 'em upon ebay. Make sure you select "Buy It Now," because ebay is cancelling auctions of these books left and right. A 7 day auction gives ebay plenty of time to shut you down.

Start a store of everything banned on Amazon or eBay. .. The hard part is going to be finding bank / payment processor.

Greenwald quit.

Which is fine, he was the only reason I EVER bothered to read the Intercept.

Glenn Greenwald is in a unique position, he's one of the very few people that will report honestly on the United States and isn't just another fucking propagandist.

@brazill66

NO, keep them.

You're just going to be selling them to some nutcase that's going to burn them anyhow.

These will be extremely valuable IF we get out of this. And frankly, we may not.

I have all 6 of those books still, from when I was a child. They passed to my much younger cousins, and then back. I read a few of them to my daughter the other night after hearing about this nonsense.

Do not sell them.

If you think Fahrenheit 451 was just fantasy, wait another 20 years.

I collect digital copies and have been for 20 years. It's a sacred duty to preserve. Preserve the good and bad, and record actual history. This is why the United States once had newspaper morgues. You know about yellow journalism? It's preserved, I archive it now and it goes far beyond newspapers.

Or consider www.craigslist.org
They're good about not censoring.

Chamath Palihapitiya is working on some sort of block chain digital rights copy right type thing I don't fully understand. But it's for actual physical things transformed into digital. I guess like baseball cards. The idea is nobody really want to hold physical anymore because so much of life is digital. Not everything can be in this sort of system but he believes everything that can be will be.

I only remember 2 books by Dr. Seuss; Cat in a Hat and Green Eggs and Ham.
