I don’t allow others to save face. Show me how I’m wrong.

I don’t. If someone effs up they need to own it. I do. I’ve admitted mistakes. I spend my first several years here at Pat.net stating incorrect things about the real estate market. I’ve subsequently admitted I was wrong. I expect no less of others.

There’s a high level person I work with who has made tremendous errors over the years. I’ve saved his ass a few times, without his knowing. I’m now in a position to do something about his miserably poor judgement. Really I ought not have saved him in the past. But his awful judgement in this case will fall on me and that cannot stand.

The ducks are in a row to crush him. He could actually lose his job over this, but it’s a govt job so most likely not. I will give him one out, but it won’t save face for him. He can accept he made a mistake and pull back his decisions. Or he can go forward and there will be a paper trail and HR trail demonstrating I did all I could do and was overridden by this manager. A trusted co worker, who despises diplomacy as much as I do, but practices it much better than me, says I should allow the manager to save face. I should approach the matter in a way where more than one option is available and I step to the side. Of course this involves me looking bad.

I won’t do it I don’t think. I can’t stand people that aren’t straight forward. Another option is to burn down the house. I could do that...the people that I saved him from are still there with legitimate issues. But I think the fallout from that would be bad. I think forcing him to acknowledge his terribad judgement or make a truly awful decision is the way to go. The only way I can be hurt is to let the matter go without any notification. Then it would be on me, not him.

You're a government worker?

Asshoes don't acknowledge their mistakes, they don't change, they don't repent, they keep fucking up, and they don't care about anything but appearances.

You only hurt yourself with impotent righteous indignation. You'll wind up looking bad, and asshoe will just continue on, so CYA is the rule.

I think that’s what my trusted co worker is trying to convey to me, in not so many words.

IMO, that's the first problem. Show me a government employee who ever got fired. Never heard of it. Government hires mediocre people based on social justice importance. Sorry but, government is the worst place for a self motivated person.

My wife worked at NASA on a contract for a few years.

Most of the permanent government employees seemed to be overweight black women, none of them very good at their jobs.

So yes, it does seem from at least this bit of direct experience that the govenment is hiring mediocre people based on social justice importance (fat, black, female in this case).
