A multi-car pileup, involving more than 100 vehicles, along Interstate-35W in Fort Worth has shutdown the highway and left several people trapped in their cars.

I have lived in DFW over half of my life and this happens every time there is an ice storm. This wreck is a worst than normal ice bumper car wrecks.
I also lived in northern Ohio for 13 years and saw my fair share of snow. You can drive on snow if you slow it down a bit. You cannot safely drive on ice and people forget this every time we get an ice storm.
In texas, would they ever brine the roads in anticipation of freezing temps? We do it regularly in NJ this time of year but we have an entire platoon dedicated to this regularly

For sure. But unless temps are below 16F this is something that should have been handled. But, when you move to TX, not dealing with winter on the roads means you don't have the equipment. You don't have salt. AND other drivers have zero clue. There's your tax savings. And potentially your life if you don't know what you're doing with winter weather.
If you haven't handled ice on a road or snow, don't go the fuck out. We're 4-5 days into a deep freeze after a snow. Salt doesn't work. It's ice skating with an engine. I've been in Montana and subdivisions are ice roads 1' thick (no typo, foot). If you don't understand the conditions, you need to get off the road. Nothing is that important unless it's a medical emergency.

The video was a clear indication you should just stay home during icy/winter weather conditions in TX. The same is true for a bunch of other states that have one event a year or maybe every decade.

FedEx guy is probably Raul that took a 6 week course to get a license. When you have radio as well with a truck already wrecked, there's really no excuse to not have put the flashers on and slowed down well before the scene. He likely had info of the wreck a minute or two prior.

Let me count the ways California drivers are stupid.
For perspective, I don’t think speed is bad per se. However you must take into account conditions. I like going 85-100 in rural areas and keep it at 70-85 in the city depending on how much traffic there is. I don’t tailgate(except when jerks are going 65 or lower amd they should move to the right), and I try to slow down early.
1.) Bane of my existence is the 405 from LA into the SFV. It’s a hill. And a 5 lane on each side interstate Highway. Somehow even at 3am, there will be idiots going 40 mph in the fast lane. The speed limit is 65, and somehow these mouth breathers can figure out that the need to press down on the gas pedal to maintain a reasonable speed. Worse is they refuse to move to the right. Even worse is the same idiots let the car fly going down the other side. Somehow it fails to reach their brain that it’s MUCH harder to slow down when you are speeding while going downhill.
2.) Speaking of slowing down, California drivers seem uniquely unaware that it’s not necessary to hit the breaks in order to slow down. That you will slow down if you let up off the gas pedal. So even though I’m driving faster than the herd, they frequently pass me heading into a stop light as I’ve already begun slowing down by letting up on the gas and these boobs are slamming on their breaks at the last second.
3.) yielding to faster traffic. It’s on the California drivers test. Yet hardly any Californians seem to care. It’s the only Western State I drive in where slow pokes won’t move over and let faster traffic pass.
4.) Lord help any California idiot driving in the rain or worse. There is no sense of anything.
5.) you never want to be out when the power goes out. There are no stupider drivers in these circumstances. The only explanation I have for why cars don’t stop or even slow down heading into a dead traffic signal is the high number of illegal aliens, who I guess don’t possibly understand the law.

I see your Sepulveda Pass and raise you owning acreage at the top of the Grapevine. Can't tell you how often I find myself cruising my 5cyl Volvo up the initial steep part before Templin Highway at a cool 90 in the completely empty far right lane, passing big rigs going 30 in the fourth lane and passenger cars going 36, 42, and 31 in the inner 3 lanes. Lane discipline is a big thing in Germany on the Autobahn, where the culture is, when someone in the fast lane flashes to pass, you pull the fuck over to let them no matter how fast you are going yourself. Americans get "freedom" twisted and gladly engage in every tragedy of the commons possible.

One night I saw the signals were out on a State route/freeway on/off intersection. Cars were just FLYING through at speed and I witnessed several very near collisions. I sped to my shop a block away and called the Sheriff, and the dispatch lady sounded annoyed to take the call. I grabbed several road flares I'd paid retail for and a hi-vis jacket and rushed back. Tried to set the flares at the limit lines between lanes as police do when the signal is dark. Mofos (plenty of them white btw) kept trying to mow my ass down as I worked, not one of them stopped, and while waiting on the raised median to cross back watched them run over and extinguish all the flares. I said fuck this and rushed back to the shop. Called Sheriff again and this time the dispatch lady YELLED at me.

True. I learned to drive at 16 while living in Michigan. At that age, you learn to get a good feel for the ice and snow, and you deliberately fish-tail now and then for fun eventually. That kind of play is actually good training.
The more adventurous go do donuts on the lakes when they're frozen, but that's really dangerous because cars fall in every year and you do not want to be in a car plunging into freezing water.

There are kids in Englewood in Chicago that have never even left the neighborhood. Those mountains are in Iowa considering drive time in most metro areas. Juanita and Tregriffin can't get there. Moral of the story, most Californians cannot drive in winter weather. Many lower level truckers are illegals as well.

I'm getting out in the next couple weeks to warm up for Big Sky and Bridger in MT. Want to book everything tonight or tomorrow for mid March. Big Sky is amazing. You need 4-5 days minimum to experience probably half of it without taking a break. There's extreme, but also a ton of long chill runs. More my style now, but I'll get up on Lone Mountain once and chill otherwise with blue and greens. Breaking my foot has made me realize how much it sucks to not be mobile. So only 1-2 double blacks.

Half of barrio burns down every time temperature falls below freezing, as Mexico and Guatemala usually do not experience freezes.
