#bidenspaceprogram I was most fascinated with some of the things in President Biden's Oval Office. He has a moon rock in the office. (This indicates to me that we are going to have a president interested in space exploration.) He has appointed a temporary NASA administrator, Steve Juczyk. Serious observers say that two women are in serious competition to be the new NASA administrator. One I have known for years-Lori Garver. She used to be Deputy NASA administrator. She is well- qualified for the job! The person in charge of space transition is Ellen Storfan. She used to be chief scientist of NASA. Now she runs the Smithsonian Air And Space Museum.

No he's not interested in anything, but his hairy legs and memories of the roaches in the pool rubbing them. But his handlers were probably instructed to glean what ever secrets they can from the program and report back to Beijing.

Was Trump not for space exploration? I don't think this is exclusive to Biden. I don't know if Musk was given subsidies for SpaceX, but we've got a dude landing and reusing rockets under a Trump administration. I don't know, kind of proof that the private market can do it better and Trump likely got the F out of the way.

NASA has helped make some great advances, but the fact remains it had a bureaucratic monopoly on space exploration. It was likely a place where few ever lost their jobs for underperforming. Musk can just fire engineers and get better ones that do what he asks. Government is not your/our friend. They trip over their own shoelaces 90% of the time and fuck things up.

SpaceX is literally almost launching half of the WORLD'S rockets into space. Beating the US, Russia, China and Europe. Fuck NASA. They should have been doing this a decade or two ago. I'd rather just give the NASA budget to SpaceX at this point (not really, but would likely be more efficient)

"President" Biden is mentally in outer space would be more precise

And yet congress and the senate keep makework NASA jobs programs, like SLS, alive for decades, plodding along, chewing through $$Billions. Over $16 Billion on SLS and not one launch. Hell, just this month they finally got around to testing the first stage after 16 years of development! We should have had a moon base decades ago. Maybe we'll finally get into another space cold war with China and then things will move forward faster. But highly unlikely given the Current Admin's love for China.

If they leapfrog us technologically, it's game over over for the USA. First country that places offensive first strike weapons on the moon wins. These can be precision non-nuclear weapons just as Jerry Pournelle projected in "The Mote in God's Eye." Alien invaders lob metal rods from orbit (do the math - KE = 1/2 mV^2) to take out all terrestrial infrastructure. Broken dams flood, electrical grid taken out, military sites obliterated, all command and control gone. Planet is weak and mostly intact for invasion and repopulation. No nukes required.

And the engines shut off long before they were supposed to. Now they have to wait a month for the engines to dry before any next steps.

All to mount a payload on the top of a Shuttle Fuel Tank designed in the late 70s. Isn't it easier to mount a payload on the top of a rocket rather than on the side?

30 years for SDHLV, tens of billions, and still not a single suborbital flight.

Zubrin worked on the first iteration of Aries/SLS way back in 1989 - 30+ years ago. His team's thinking was it should be one year for development and one for fabrication and one for testing - 1992 due date. 30 years later and bupkes.

They're gonna push Artemis back several years because the Chinese don't want us on the Moon and honestly neither does ULA. Why ruin their free cash for no product?

Or anywhere in space. Been watching The Expanse? A few targeted asteroids could really ruin a planet’s day.

That’s why PRESIDENT TRUMP created the Space Force!

Honestly, with the kind of awful people in charge we have now, the USA wouldn’t be a good steward of planetary power either.

The Expanse is the best space show.

I tried to watch it for a bit. Just looks like another dystopian future.

I am sure you have heard the term "asterisk" before. Like when a sports record is set by someone juicing on steroids.

I love the subtle asterisk. (hat tip Karloff). I will never write it any other way.
