The United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) issued the following statement today following the news that the Biden-Harris Administration plans to rescind the permit and effectively end construction on the Keystone XL pipeline:

“In revoking this permit, the Biden Administration has chosen to listen to the voices of fringe activists instead of union members and the American consumer on Day 1. Let me be very clear: When built with union labor by the men and women of the United Association, pipelines like Keystone XL remain the safest and most efficient modes of energy transportation in the world. Sadly, the Biden Administration has now put thousands of union workers out of work. For the average American family, it means energy costs will go up and communities will no longer see the local investments that come with pipeline construction,” said Mark McManus, General President of the United Association.

“New advancements in technology mean that these pipelines are a low-carbon method of energy transportation and a critical part of delivering affordable energy while achieving our shared climate goals. Keystone XL would not only be constructed entirely by union labor, but it would be the first pipeline fully powered by renewable energy.”

They got stabbed in the back on Day 1, so much for their dues being donated to the guy who just fired them all.

I’d wager that Union voted Trump 90-95%.

That's a bit high. I reckon Trump got 60% of ALL votes.

Agreed! beats the heck out of tanker trucks or trains. Way better than shipping it over from the middle east. Wouldn't you agree?

The most hysterical part of this is that oil comes from the ground anyway. It used to ooze out of the ground in places like Texas. Now we're all worried about a potential small leak all things considered. These pipelines all have shut off options every X number of miles. I really don't understand why democrats are averse to this topic. Consumers spill more gas and oil fueling up their car or changing their oil on a daily basis than these pipelines ever will. Outside of catastrophic events like oil tankers, trains or drilling platforms in the water going south, it's relatively safe tech.

I'm not sure. A pipeline seems like a single (unprotectable) point of failure.

OR it's a single source that can be controlled as opposed to thousands of tankers rolling down our highways and railways.

It is still oozes out of the ocean bottom and can be found on California beaches.

Warren Buffet invested a bunch in rail-lines - there's "public relations" (propaganda) built around that in order to make a profit.

It's as simple as that.

Not me. I know a number of pipe fitters and they are red blooded Patriots who know the Democrats are scumbags and have been voting R for a while. Biden telegraphed this move. I doubt if 10% of the members voted for him. Union leaders area different story always far Left

Virtue signaling. By being against the pipeline, you can feel like a good environmentalist while still driving and otherwise consuming massive energy like a spoiled 1st World person. Better virtue signal than real action like cycling instead of driving, clothesline instead of a dryer, small home with solar/geothermal instead of big house, etc. For the politicos, it would be airlines instead special trips in government jets.

Only when crossing oceans! Trains in the rest of the cases.

Rich people selling “clean energy” win by fucking everyone via government action.

Globalism = death to America, it’s culture and people. But rich will be very rich.

It's the same reason they think they defeated "white supremacists" and "Nazis" in the election: to make themselves feel good about themselves.

This explains their psychology so damn well: https://patrick.net/post/1337493/2021-01-10-discrimination-based-on-political-affiliation-is-a-civil-rights-issue

Their whole identity is wrapped up in a badly mistaken ideology, and oil pipelines are part of the enemy in that ideology, so they get to whack off on feeling they are "good" if they fight oil pipelines no matter what the cost to ordinary working people.

To ask them to challenge their incorrect beliefs is to ask them to part with a piece of their own heart, as Solzhenitsyn put it.

20   mell   2021 Jan 24, 8:26am

Yes. And girl's sports are history now with "chicks" with dicks in locker rooms easily winning most major competitions going forward and free to check out all the pussy they want. Great success!

If politicians claim they will do something that is going to harm you, they will actually do it.
If they claim they will do something that will benefit you, they won't do it.

Pretty simple.

The reason is that Warren Buffet owns the railroad operations currently transporting oil from Alaska to the refineries in the lower-48. Oil pipelines are not only safer and less prone to catastrophic accidents like derailment fire on railroads, but also far more energy efficient (i.e. lower CO2 footprint) than railroad shipping; the logic for solar power and electric over internal combustion engines (higher initial investment but lower energy cost over life time) seems to have turned upside-down on transporting oil from Alaska.
