Chapman University, the private university based in Orange, California, will not fire a professor who spoke at a rally for President Donald Trump that was staged mere hours before the Capitol siege.

Law professor John Eastman was a speaker at the "Stop the Steal" rally Wednesday, where he repeated multiple falsehoods about fraud in the 2020 election during his rambling, three-minute address.

In response, more than 150 Chapman staff members — including professors, deans and board members — published a letter to the editor in the Los Angeles Times calling for his firing.

But in two separate statements, Chapman University President Daniele Struppa simultaneously called Eastman's role in the riots "in direct opposition to the values and beliefs of our institution" and refused to fire him, citing the university's manual on faculty conduct.

"I am not the Emperor of Chapman University, nor I am the Supreme Leader of Chapman University. I am the President of the university, and as such, I am bound by laws and processes that are clearly spelled out in our Faculty Manual," he wrote in a Saturday statement.

He continued: "The Manual says that if a jury finds a faculty member to be guilty of a felony, or if they are disbarred, THEN the university can dismiss them. The university has no right to substitute itself for these formal bodies."

"When you are asking me to simply fire a faculty member without that, you are asking me to act as if I am indeed above the law. I continue to think this would be a terrible mistake for the institution, and I am troubled that so many are willing to sacrifice our process and our rules, in order to protect our reputation," Struppa said.

First, think about how insane it is that such a title of an article could even exist in America.

There is surprise that a professor cannot be fired for using free speech.

WTF?

Second, Chapman University President Daniele Struppa should now be afraid of leftist violence. She stood up for what is right and just in opposition to political correctness, and the left hates that.

Chapman folded like a cheap lawn chair:

LOS ANGELES – Capping days of growing uproar, Chapman University announced Wednesday that a professor who participated in the pro-Trump rally the same day that a violent mob stormed the U.S. Capitol would retire immediately.

John Eastman, an endowed professor and constitutional law scholar at Chapman, spoke alongside Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani at the “Save America” rally Jan. 6, making the unsubstantiated claim that “secret folders” inside ballot-counting machines skewed both the presidential and Georgia Senate race results in Democrats’ favor.

Chapman President Daniele Struppa said in a statement that the university and Eastman had reached an agreement and Eastman would retire immediately. Both parties agreed not to take any kind of legal action, including over claims of defamation, which Eastman had alleged.

“Dr. Eastman’s departure closes this challenging chapter for Chapman and provides the most immediate and certain path forward for both the Chapman community and Dr. Eastman,” Struppa said in a statement.

More than 160 Chapman faculty members had signed a letter calling for the university’s faculty senate, provost, president and law school dean to take action against Eastman, including stripping him of his endowed professorship and removing him from teaching students.

Struppa had rejected demands to fire Eastman, saying that while Eastman’s actions and statements were in “direct opposition to the values and beliefs of our institution,” he was its president, not its “Supreme Leader,” and appropriate processes for investigating the actions of faculty must be followed.

In an emailed statement Wednesday, Eastman said it was “with mixed feeling” that he announced his retirement, noting that he spent his entire academic career at Chapman and that the university’s law school achieved its highest national ranking under his leadership.

But, he said, the faculty members who signed the letter calling for his termination had “created such a hostile environment for me that I no longer wish to be a member of the Chapman faculty.”

He called the letter “defamatory” and said the claims he made at the rally were factual. He also said it was “scurrilous” to claim he had participated in a riot.

“This charge is really an attempt to shut down the exercise of First Amendment rights,” he wrote.

Eastman said he would finish out his term as a visiting professor at the University of Colorado Boulder, then turn his focus to the Claremont Institute’s Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence, which he directs.

I hope the good professor have taken them to the cleaners and got the yuge severance package he deserves.

"Retire".. Nobody believes that lie anymore. We all know it means "fired" but he'll get severance or manage to keep his pension if he keeps his mouth shut.

Is anyone keeping a list of colleges and universities that are actually still institutions of higher learning, instead of subversive, Marxist indoctrination centers? The list must be getting smaller every day.

Tell me, how can you even stand to read such nonsense?

It's entirely a waste of time to read propaganda. Do you find it enjoyable to read just biased poppycock?
