Surprise. Virus is over. And never was to begin with.

LOL!

Speaking too much sanity too soon is like giving a dehydrated man too much water. They need to deliver it in small, separated sips or the patient dies.

Cuomo can see what is blowing in the wind; there’s an exodus of people who pay taxes in New York.

They are aware that in Florida they are also not as restrictive about eating in restaurants, etc.
5   Patrick   2021 Jan 11, 7:16pm

And a lot of NYC has winter houses in Miami anyway.
6   GreaterNYCDude   2021 Jan 12, 8:05am

Wehelp that only took 10 months... go figure.

Cuomo must be angling for a cabinet post.

@Patrick I know you know this, but New York is a whole lot bigger than NYC. Upstate small business are dying a slow death due to the closures. NYC is worse (who wants to eat outdoors in January?) and not all of the city is rich wall street types with second and third homes. Many are working poor to middle class. Not only that but the service sector from waiters to hotel staff to taxi drivers is in a bad way right now. Even for a white collar guy like myself, jobs are fewer and further between and salaries have been pushed down (good old supply and demand). Im not complaing - just making an observation. Despite recent struggles I've been fortunate enough to have a rainy day fund to get through this, but many of my friends who own or work in reasturants say it will take years to recover from the damage that has been done and several are barley hanging on.

***

This virus is real (I've been convinced since day one there were two strains once of which is more contagious and agressive than the other) and not something to mess with. Personally I dont mind the masks. Even if its security theater if it makes other people feel safer so be it. IMHO it may not help but it doesn't hurt.

But to seletivly shut down buisnees... I agree with Trump that its not a "solution" if it does more harm than good. If the shutdowns didn't work in March why would they work now. It never made sense to me. Not then. Not now.

Even if its politically convient I'm pleased to hear Cuomo finally changing his tune, but I'll belive it when I see it. If Biden goes all UK on us an presses for a nationwide lockdown you know Cuomo (and Schumer) will be first to inline to support it.

Its OK though.. once everyone is vaccinated, helicopter money will dig us out of this mess.

BTW - I just got word I'm eligible for the vaccine... not sure how I feel about that, but if I do take it, I'll report back how it goes.... my wife doesn't want more kids anyway. :)

I disagree about masks. I think they spread fear and this deliberately stoked fear has been more harmful than the disease itself.

Masks stoke fear? Really? If anything everyone wearing masks has normalized it. Last year at this time if I saw a random Asian person wearing a mask I genuinely feared they had the plague and stayed away from them. Now masks are a precautionary nuisance at worst that hopefully will be less mandated end of year, but maybe more a seasonal thing that just becomes a form of attire during flu season like in China.

No one in my family has had cold since mid last March! That’s kinda incredible compared to previous years! I attribute it to taking more vitamins, more hand washing, and mask wearing!

If you're sick everybody welcomes you wearing a mask, esp. in dense spaces such as public transportation. Or staying at home if you can. If you're healthy wearing a mask is not only bullshit, it's tyranny. Don't even go there. Of course you're welcome to wear one 24/7, 365 days a year cause at any point in time you cold be carrying (and are carrying) anything from various herpes viruses to the flu. It will deteriorate your health and your immune system badly though, much worse than the risk of catching an infection once in a while which is what our bodies were designed to do.

My favorite is... "Or you're killing grandma"

Probably all of us have killed a few grandmas and greatgrandmas.

Some time in our decades of life, we caught a mostly asymptomatic virus, wiped our mouth after sipping a coffee, hit the button on the elevator/turned the doorknob. Next person did the same thing, got our virus on their hands, rubbed their nose, then later that or the next day visited nanna in the nursing home. 85 years old with diabetes and 70% arterial blockage, she didn't survive the flu she got. The people who gave it to her didn't even know they were sick

This I believe is true.
However, have you heard of the rising numbers of mask-related fungal infections? People are coming into the hospitals with severe pneumonia caused by rampant fungus.

If you’re going to wear masks, wash them well or use disposables. I only use disposables whenever I am forced to wear one.
I refuse to wear one at work and haven’t since this all began. I’m too valuable to the company for them to mess with me about it.

Usually the more contagious forms are less aggressive and severe by natural selection. Of course if they infect more then overall deaths may be the same or more but we should not fear mutations. Fore example Ebola is far more serious, if it ever would mutate into a non deadly from that one would likely wipe out the more severe strain(s).

I haven't been sick in over 2 years with even the sniffles or a cough. Pretty sure I got the flu last week and tested negative for Covid. Either way, mid last March is really nothing. My wife hasn't gotten sick in 4-5 years. My two sons (knock on wood) it has been since winter 2019/20, so over a year but they're kids so expected.

Reality is, it's okay to get sick. Let your damn immune system work and stay strong. Sure when it's bad it sucks, but worst case, even with a bad Covid bout, it really isn't all that bad. You're knocked down for 3-6 days and you move on. Usually you lose weight too, so that's a positive. I'd personally rather get sick twice a year for 10 days total than wear a mask. Because masks don't work and are simply uncomfortable.

Patrick is 100% right though. Masks are fear. You literally say so yourself seeing an Asian person with one on. If you're brave enough, go into your grocery store without one next time to experience what masking is. You deep down know you're not going to get sick or get others sick. Try it. For real. Until you do that, you cannot really speak on the masking topic and its relationship to fear. You will see humans behave in ways you never thought were possible. All because you didn't have a cheap Chinese made mask suffocating you.

Going along to get along will ultimately end you up in the Gulag or the mass grave. As soon as the revolution is finished with the useful idiots they are liquidated.

At least they'll clean out the homeless camps. You always have to look at the positive side.

But it's not over.

When Trump won the first time the Democrats cried in the street and blamed Russia.

When Trump had his second term stolen from him the Republicans PATRIOTS (It is what it is) got silently determined and made sure their powder was dry.

I think it fundamentally changes all interpersonal interactions as well. I don't even look at people anymore because there really is no feedback. No small smile of acknowledgment when passing someone in the market or any of the micro expressions that are part of the primal social non-aggression, or flirtation signaling. Instead of trying to charm the checker and get a small laugh out of her I have to holler at her though my mask, around some cheesy plastic screen. It is destructive of social cohesion. It is ridiculous.

I constantly tell people I can't hear them. I even told one customer she had to text me if she wanted to tell me something. I wouldn't have done that if she hadn't acted like such a bitch.

Yes, really.

Big time. Constant "in your face" reminder of the PLAUGE that somehow has not affected even one person I personally know yet.

Helps to stoke division among the public, also very good for distracting us from the 0.1% and what they are doing!

And it de-humanizes people. Literally makes them look inhuman. Creates a sense of isolation, loneliness. Great at demoralizing the public!

The one upside: it helps prevent facial recognition AI from working.
