New idea to me: masks may prevent people from developing "passive immunity" to Wuhan virus

I think the idea is that if you get exposed to a little bit of the virus by being near people who have it, you can develop immunity without getting sick. Low viral load!

So wearing masks may actually be preventing us from getting immunity.

Not sure about the science, but it's an interesting idea.

Well to be fair you could also argue with those crap masks always something seeps through, esp. if it's airborne and the lower viral load will make you beat it without getting sick. However given the fact that wearing a mask for prolonged time gets you into a state of hypoxia and makes you breath in way too much CO2 without any proven benefits this shows that mask mandates outside are totally fucked up and actually harming people. Do not wear a mask outside, your body will thank you. Also wearing a mask for a long time will harm your immune system so it's likely better not to wear one unless there's a clear contagion risk.

I wear a neck gaiter. I have a scruffy short beard thing going. The hair pokes through the material. Lol. If a piece of beard hair is making it through, it ain’t stopping much else. So be default I’m an ass hole and killing granny. But I have my “mask” on. Lol.

It really depends on what the way of transmission is. If it's droplets only crappy masks will do the trick, but so will standing a couple feet apart or sneezing/coughing into your sleeve. The weird super spreader stories and infections across apartment complexes if true would indicate some sort of airborne transmission, which if true would render masks below n95 useless, maybe you could argue on the side of the lower viral load theory, but it's a stretch and masks also cause a lot of harm to the body, esp. if you'r healthy anyways. I do not buy into the asymptomatic spreader theory at all, the few cases where that happens are likely totally insignificant and between people with a very close relationship.

It seems especially ridiculous when I see someone wearing one alone in a car with all the windows shut and AC on. They must be some kind of glutton for self abuse.

I'm kind of thinking 'IF' masks are actually blocking anything... then by the time flu season kicks in, our immune systems will be so relaxed and under-exercised, that it's going to show us what a real virus is capable of.

I think we know masks are just for perception only. Pacifiers.

Lockdowns themselves are like hitting yourself in the face and taking the pain and sacrifice to try to help the disease situation. Equally not effective.

Somewhere I read something like 80pct of the US wants masks mandatory... I give up, I'm on the first rocket to Mars

Where do the 20% live? I'm moving there

Passive immunity can come from injection of antibodies from a lab or directly from a person who has immunity, or from breast milk. Masks are therefore irrelevant to the topic of “passive” immunity.

In the OP, I think Patrick is referring to natural immunity which develops when a person is exposed to a virus and has an immune response to it causing production of antibodies which could prevent full blown infection.

Well I don't know about your mask but I can smoke a cigar through mine so I doubt if its keeping me "safe".
