There is some evidence that Americans get fatter because we end up eating hormones used to quickly fatten cattle and other animals.

So it's not all the fault of Americans.
4   clambo   2020 Aug 5, 8:45pm

We tend to get fat because it’s in our genes to get fat.

Humans have been around much longer than agriculture has been; famine was a constant threat where we evolved.

The ability to store fat was selected for by the environment.

The people who didn’t have the tendency to store fat died in famines, so their DNA is in the dust of Africa.

It’s interesting that many indigenous groups in North America lived around a self renewable food source; oysters.

I have seen oyster shell piles (middens) in Maine, Florida, Baja California Sur, and they were all around New York, even mapped by the early European explorers.

Oysters are a nearly perfect food, only low in fiber.

Just cook it. I used to love raw but it's roulette these days. South TX is/was a great place for oysters. They have oyster-fest. Used to have great shrimp too. I had family with shrimp boats down in Port Aransas. All gone now though. Can't compete with that cheap ass flavorless farmed crap from Asia.

Yes, especially when Americans eat such huge portions and rarely exercise. Do you seriously think cooked hormones survive the digestion process? Perhaps men should only eat beef from bulls, as eating cow meat may feminize them from all that estrogen.

I agree that the effect from added hormones is small. It's the lack of exercise and Netflix and chill. We used to be on the field all day and easily burn 1000 calories extra out there. Plus American portions are big which wouldn't be a problem with enough exercise.

9   ignoreme   2020 Aug 6, 1:14pm

Americans are fat because of added sugars. Most food, even supposed “healthy” low fat foods is full of added sugars.

I personally use keto to maintain weight, but really I think if you just avoided processed foods and tried to just eat things that you can recognize as coming from a plant or an animal, seasoned with ingredients that you know what they are (no secret sauce) you’d be just fine.
10   ignoreme   2020 Aug 6, 1:16pm

And it doesn’t help that big agriculture gets subsidized so that a bag of chips costs less then a bag of salad.

The price isn't high for either salad or chips, so price is not the issue. You could provide free salad and the tubbies would still prefer chips.
12   Shaman   2020 Aug 6, 1:58pm

Avoid anything low fat. Full fat is more satisfying and low fat always involves added sugars which directly contribute to weight gain and inflammation.

Also try to eat six servings of fruits and vegetables every day. Just focusing on getting this done will replace much of what you eat every day with lower calorie but very nutritious food, making weight easier to maintain or lose.

Is it possible to eat ten Big Macs and supersize fries while on a ventilator? Corona sufferers need to know.

Nothing worse than a vagina that smells like Serengeti road kill.

I don't think that the vagina comment was directed at anyone, just "one's vagina smells bad", which is something I have also heard I think.

Big? Thats like saying stacey abrahms is big..lol....I think you mean HUGE...enormous. You could say they eat like glutinous pigs and wouldn't be exaggerating.

But thats too hard and even though I'm not working and sitting on my ass all day, I just don't have time to prepare real food...Plus it doesn't taste as good and the most important thing about food is not whether it's healthy, it's all about how it tastes.
20   Karloff   2020 Aug 6, 8:16pm

@Shaman

I was able to lose 30lbs in only a few months simply by reducing carb consumption (sugars, breads, cereals, rice, potatoes, grains) as much as I could, substituting with meats, eggs, and fats (cheese, yogurt) as I'm not much of a veggie guy. Found I was able to eat half of what I used to in a day, and not get hungry between meals. During this I was only doing some basic exercise, maybe 10-15min per day.

Foods that are chock full of high-fructose corn syrup are among the worst.

Karl Denninger had a series of articles on it on his site (market-ticker.org) and how it helped him. Also explained the role of carbohydrates in inflammation and diabetes. I used to have an eczema-like skin condition and after cutting carbs down and cutting out foods deep-fried in vegetable oil, it went away. It comes back a bit if I eat some crap when at a get-together with friends, but at least I know now what causes it. Pretty sure it was an inflammation-related condition.

There's also evidence that inflammation is involved in many auto-immune disorders.

I invented the one hamburger diet. I get one a week with no fries or soda. Any one I want. It works. I lost 10lbs in six weeks. Of course I cut out the other crap too and exercised a little bit.

Later I invented the one taco diet. It worked even better.

Doesn't work. My wife's cousin tested positive for Covid yesterday. Closest person I know to date. She's kind of a Karen in that she has followed all the rules from the beginning, though doesn't bitch at other people about wearing a mask. Is an introvert, so isn't out at bars and partying or anything like that at all. They have zero clue where she got it from. Either way, she said she's tired. That is her single symptom. The horror! Everyone's dead, put your mask on! Oh wait, she did.... Oh I forgot that mask isn't to protect you.... Or I recall in March Fauci said we didn't need masks?.... Or... never mind....

If all I ate was one hamburger over the course of a week, and nothing else, yeah I'd lose weight.

If the virus is airborne all these surgical and cloth masks do NOT work. N95 is minimum and it needs to fit tightly. Also it could be a false positive. who knows if they detect the right rna strand fragments or if they show positive for many CVs. Wouldn't surprise me to artificially inflate the numbers.

My bowels go apeshit in the presence of vegetable or RAPEseed (new marketing name to not offend Karens: Canola) oil.

The only number that is really important is deaths, lives ruined, and votes cast.

There has been a lot of news of corruption and manipulation in the news lately; Biden's Winning!, Covid Cases are Up!, Must Mask!, Stupid Trump Lied Again!

If you take the likely inflated death numbers and say that they're 3x the normal flu season. So in 3 years of flu season as many people die, are those lives worth less? Shouldn't we all be wearing inefficient and harmful masks all the time? No. That's how easily you can refute the Karens and TDS people. The only reason it made sense to lockdown or wear efficient masks would be the hospital overload. Which there wasn't really any except for maybe a few days which is not uncommon during the flu season as well.
