What cities? What attractions?

Road trip to several cities? St. Augustine? Sarasota? St. Petersburg?

See where Tiger Woods, Venus Williams, Michael Jordan live, the area and beaches are nice.

I was there for about 5 years. I didn’t explore much else of the state.

I like scuba diving and it was great in that area, otherwise sport fishing was good if you like that.

I wanted to go inland to take an airboat ride into the everglades but never did.

I also missed the space museum and St. Augustine. I will see them someday.

A lot of locals like to drive down to the keys.

I avoid Disneyworld, etc. in Orlando.

I spent one night at Miami Beach just to see the place and it was enough for me.

If you go to St. Petersburg don't miss the Dali Museum.

If you like that sort of thing.

Do you like to sweat? I mean REALLY sweat! From 8 am when you go out to pickup the paper until - ALL DAY AND NIGHT. It's always 10000% humidity. So, I'll pass.

If there is a breeze from the Gulf it can be tolerable. Stili Sweaty.

We were supposed to go but I'm not wearing a mask in 100 degree weather. We've moved it to next year.

Drove from Miami to Key Largo about a year ago. Spent a couple of nights there. Lots of good, no frills restaurants with good seafood. Did a snorkeling boat trip. Lots of tourist things to do. If you are a sport fishermen, you'd probably lke the whole area.

Drove through the minor keys to Key West. There are some decent open air restuarants with a good vibe along the way.

Stayed in Key West several nights. Defintely a tourist area. Cool architecture and guided tours. The town area is partying at night. Reminded me a bit of New Orleans. Lots of live music. Lots of interesting characters. If I was sans wife, I could see hanging out there. Restaurants on the pricey side as you might expect. Took a snorkling trip - seen better. Did a dolphin spotting trip and did see dolphin.

I’m a panhandle guy for FL. Pensacola to the west and St. George to the east. Can’t really go wrong with any town between those two. Sand is probably the best I’ve seen, though I haven’t traveled out of this hemisphere. And it’s not really beach weather during the winter months. March to early November will get you solid beach weather if that’s what you’re into. Decent golf courses, but nothing spectacular. Obviously plenty of deep sea fishing charters. Can also rent boats along the bays on the ICW. Solid inland river fishing too. Generally less dense and touristy compared to central and southern FL on the gulf or Atlantic sides.

New Smyrna Beach is a great place to hang out. St Peters beach is good too.

We're giving Navarre Beach a try next month. Heard good things about that as well.

I love Daytona-Space Coast. KSC, lots of boating and fishing in the Indian River, great coastal breeze, down to Earth without being trashy, great beaches, less criminal and pompous than Miami-WPB axis.

Atlantic City has the finest sand anywhere that I have been. It's famous for it.

Go to the Florida panhandle like Mexico Beach, Panama City Beach, Destin, and Pensacola.

Rocketjoe is partially correct.

I was on the Atlantic side for a few years and at the beach the temperature was fine, the breeze comes over water that’s 80F or so.

You can jump in and float around like a giant salt water swimming pool.

The 80F water feels warm but it still brings your core temperature down and you go home later and it feels cold in your AC a little bit.

You’ll like Navarre. Not the best dining options unless going to Ft Walton/Destin or Pensacola Beach ~20-30min east or west from Navarre. Totally chill though. I’ve been there about 30-35 times as a kid and adult. My 2nd home 2-3 weeks a year roughly.

If you go within 100 miles of Pensacola, set aside a day for the Naval Air Museum. I say a day because there are over 150 planes inside, and they were collecting money to restore and enclose another 150 planes that were outside. Museum quality restorations.

They're not currently open due to COVID, but are working on ways to safely open up.

If you plan things right, you can find out when the Blue Angels are practicing and get a free show.

Wow, thanks for all the replies.

And shit, I hate sweating! I’m spoiled by CA climate.

I really enjoyed the drive out to key west. Was a very unique experience driving on those narrow tiny islands linked via bridges.

Melbourne/Cocoa Beach: Space Center, American Police Hall of Fame (great gun range), WW2 Warbird Museum, Charles Bronson State Forest, Some of the Best Surfing & Beaches in Florida, Great Pier, RonJon World HQ, Alligator/Turkey/Pheasant Hunting, plenty of restaurants (seaside and not) and my favorite bar with live music and cheap food and beers, The Island Waterfront Bar, real Jimmy Buffet atmosphere. 15-30 minutes in any direction from Cocoa Beach. Multiple Mini Golf and Gator "Petting Zoos" as well as fossils (place is famous for Pleistocene fossils like Mammoths and Sabre Tooths) for the kids.

Brevard open for business and people will look at you funny if you wear a mask outside, and most places inside.

Orlando with Universal/Disney 1 hour away. Orlando is a little tougher, but you can swim at parks without a mask.

County is Republican with a great, tough on crime Sheriff who DGAF about thug lives mattering, Wayne Ivey. He encourages armed citizenry and makes it a point to encourage firearms ownership. He also actively campaigned against Gillum.

I promised my kids that when they were good, strong swimmers I'd take them to Hawaii for warm-water snorkeling. They had to wait almost ten years because of the expense... so we went to the Florida Keys instead.

Most of the trip expense: plane flights from Bay Area, accommodations, rental car, activities, food, etc, for the snorkeling trip to the Keys, some alligator time at the edge of the Everglades, and one day at Miami Beach, costed about the same as only plane tickets for Bay Area to Hawaii.

Maybe a reason South Florida was cheaper than Hawaii was we went during my kids' Easter Break time, missing the South Florida Spring Break tsunami by a week. In late spring the weather was warm but not so brutally hot. We only got skunked one day for thunderstorms.
