With the Coasts, LibbyFuck Progressive Redoubts, and the swollen, free shit pus bags of the major cities ready to burst, where in America is the safest place to live where traditional values can be observed, with adequate militias to stand against KommieKunt tyranny?

Wife and I have thought that we may not have the luxury of merely going where weather and nominal amenities are available, but may have to choose on the basis of max freedom from government interventions, rational civic and tax policy, somewhere that does not deputize the criminal classes, and simple personal safety are possible for a reasonable period of time into the future.

Midwest/Southeast states that are red are your best bet.

Not much reporting on chaos in Alaska.

Northern Half of Florida. Very 2A Friendly Sheriffs:

Elected Sheriffs, not County or City officials, are the chief law enforcement authorities in their county. They can and do side step Mayors or City Councillors and City Police.

North and East of Ocala National Park. Thinking about buying some junk land up there, preferably rural/farm designation rather than residential. Orlando, Gainesville, Daytona all under an hour but far enough from the hoodrats, 2A Lovin' Sheriffs, and while schools are poor, there are many small Evangelical/Homeschool Coops. 30 miles west of Jax is good, and there are still some good properties (but smaller) within 10 miles of the Atlantic between Daytona and Vero.

Northern Maine is also great, you can buy land for ~$1250/acre, often off a road with power. Problem is Assfreeze Cold and Sewage Perk, which is why most of the central part of the state is all but uninhabited. You'll also end up closer to Quebecois towns than US Towns in many cases.

Darker the red the better, stay as far from the blue as you can.

I want to leave CA.

First rule of Prop 13: never give up your tax basis.
I'm waiting to see if we strike this from the state constitution.
The state shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting.

I nearly have a down payment that will pay for the whole fucking house in in SoCal. Finally. Be a real shame for CA prop-13 or otherwise if I spent it in some other state.

I hear the Joe Rogan and E. Musk moves over the last 10 days or so have some people really starting to freak out.

"Where did our tax base go?!"

Texas. The suburbs of Dallas are excellent and the smaller cities....I’ve never met a bad person from Lubbock, Abeleine, Amarillo, etc. suburbs of Nashville are supposed to be great too though I’ve never been.

I've been thinking of this. I think you need to throw a Chinese asymmetric clash into things too. They know we are a fractured society, they will exploit that instead of direct confrontation.

So a splintered society, cities going to shit, liberals going commie, and a future asymmetric war with china... now I live in CA and I am hooked on the weather, so my conclusion is this; have a footprint in a state that is low in population, wont go purple this next generation and try to have some sustainability. This means a small farm with income in ID, MT, WY, UT away from nuclear targets; and if you can swing it a winter house in the warmer climates. Try to diversify income away from local, I don't care if you sell buttwipes online, try to get your income mobile. I figure you have 3 years tops if Trump wins, 6 if Biden wins.

Texas suburbs and a bit further out were a great place to grow up.

Almost all of my SF bay area CA elementary school class from the late 70s early 80s wound up dead, in prison, on the street, or in CA subsidized housing that was nicer that anything I had in the bay area as a biotech pro due to mental disease. But those latter ones are heavily controlled for their vote. Seriously. I still visit some and see the shit in their apartments and it's full of left wing demo dick sucking from local democrats. Medals and awards for schizo's that have a 9th grade education because they 'did something nice' and voted for the local demonrat. One is still my oldest best friend from 1st grade. He's all messed up so I obviously don't hold it against him or tell him what's going on.

@Fortwaynemobile People say Idaho is good. Maine looks good too.

I'm interested in looking at the red bits at the northern border of CA and southern border of OR.

Waco, 100 miles north of Austin, 100 miles south of DFW. One downside is the chance of toronados April-June, but most happen to the north.

San Diego County, especially North County (Carlsbad, San Marcos, Vista, Oceanside) are still pretty sane and safe politically. Not too crowded with lots of open space that is still reasonably affordable if you want a few acres. Not to mention miles and miles of beautiful coastline.

Sure - it is not Texas Conservative and our taxes are still high - but you can't beat the weather and the surf.

I’ve been exploring Montana and Wyoming this week, and spent several days in Yellowstone. Beautiful country here, people seem friendly. There’s a mask mandate in Montana but only the stores seem to require it. Nobody walking the streets with masks.
Gonna do some trout fishing with the kiddos today on the Yellowstone River.
Totally nerding out on Paradise Valley where my current favorite show (Yellowstone) is set.

Probably delightful on a nice day, but the whole area from Santa Barbara down to the border along the coast has much higher population density than Alameda County or Santa Cruz County, and I refuse to go someplace even more crowded than where I am. They are also between the huge pus pockets of LA and the Mexican Border, not exactly apocalypse safe zones, and California and the public service unions will fuck them up in short order along with everything else. There is no power that can stop them, and you can read that the homeless are everywhere, now. Mayor of LA is another flagrant progressive ranter and raver, and one just can't believe that a sane public would elect such people.

I am pretty convinced that aside from the obvious crowding that there are a LOT more people here, documented or undocumented, than they admit in the stats, like 5 to 10 million at least. That is not to mention (pre-Covid) tourism, that adds swarms during the nice months.

All of the positive nostalgia about California is about an era that is just plain gone, and just occasionally pops through once in a while to remind us of what has been lost forever. Most Californians if they aren't in wealthy, cloistered redoubts are in a chronic state of denial sandwiched between the nostalgic past and the inevitable future, hoping the nice weather and the ocean will make the nightmare just go away.

Well, the other vote that will be interesting to watch is the Prop 13 - Commercial reform (on the November ballot as California Proposition 15: Tax on Commercial and Industrial Properties for Education and Local Government Funding Initiative). I have a hard believing that it won't pass, as the taxes will be needed to shore up that states finances, especially during these times. However, the fallout on the business side is the big unknown. Disneyland is unlikely so go anywhere, but other industries might decide to sell off their holdings and take their capital somewhere else.

Liking Montana more and more. No state income tax and no sales tax! Amazing!

My wife has relatives in Forsythe and Big Timber,, and I have spent time in Montana during summers. Absolutely beautiful area with great people. But you may want to try the place out during winter before you move there.

I show Montana with a 6.9% Income tax rate. With some deductions.

Yes, they for sure have an income tax. I get into arguments with my buddy who moved out there. He doesn’t make as much as I do, so it makes sense for him, but as strange as it sound IL is cheaper than MT for me (for now).

Also the sales tax thing doesn’t move the needle as much as people would like to think as far as cost of living. They just charge more for stuff in those states. My buddy brags about no sales taxes and then bitches about the prices of cars. If they know a 4 runner will sell new for $45k in IL, they’re not going to discount the price because of no sales tax. They build in what someone would pay in IL and charge $50k because that’s essentially what you’d be paying in IL.

Property taxes are average at best. Maybe slightly high. And it gets you limited services out there. My buddies place in Belgrade had 10” of ice in his subdivision the winter of 18/19.

Airfare is also a bitch. Regional airports generally charge an arm and a leg even for a basic flight to DEN. I usually have to spend $400-500 to get out there from ORD.

It’s beautiful out there, but much more expensive than people expect.
