With Martinez bracing for Sunday afternoon’s protest march from the county courthouse to Waterfront Park, many downtown merchants have taken the hint from Police Chief Manjit Sappal and decided to err on the side of caution by boarding up their storefront windows.

Hopefully the event will come off peacefully, but given the recent wave of protests and social unrest across the country in the wake of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin murdering George Floyd on May 25, MPD and other local law enforcement agencies are expected to be out in force.

We need arrests.

Lots of arrests, and prison terms.

There will be no mass arrests. We simply do not have the infrastructure in place to house the criminals. We have about 1.5 million incarcerated. About 180000 new inmates are added per year and about 200000 are released. Our criminal justice system was operating near capacity prior to COVID. COVID has reduced the numbers of people that can be navigated through the system because of reduced court time.

We are a nation of about 330 million people. Prior to COVID lockdowns there was a 3.5% unemployment rate. In July, 23% of renters did not make their rent. Most of these did not make prior months' rents, as well. About 35% of people rent (in California that percent is higher). There have been state and federal restrictions placed on evictions. Most of those restrictions are going to be lifted at the end of July. So suddenly, as a nation, we are going to try to economically displace 25 million people through no fault of their own. Even if just a small percentage of those being displaced (let's say 1%) turn to violent crime; that's an extra 250000 that need incarcerated, or more than doubling the current numbers.

Property crimes are not even going to be given a glance by law enforcement. They will be dealing mostly with violent crimes against people.

Sure we do. Stop paying teachers if they're not going to open schools in the fall and hire security and turn schools into jails. There's always a way to get things done. You cannot be allowed to commit even petty property crimes. This is why I'm so glad I live in a rural area. You'd be moronic to even try and fuck with people out here. Even in IL everyone has a gun for the most part.

Several hundred white people, half of them cops, showed up to talk about systemic racism, white privilege, and police brutality.

California would have more than enough prison space if they’d cooperate with the feds and deport the illegals living in California.

I’ve been trying to hold off hoping we’d get a governor or Mayor Martinez but this will have to do.

Not true, the infrastructure is in place. And these soyboy rioters aren't cut out for prison. You give them a 10 day stint in a real prison and they would make sure they never break the law again.
