Perhaps time for some Teddy Roosevelt, that brilliant hybrid of (true) progressivism and republicanism:

And I used my chalk to write "I like America" at a sidewalk crossing.

Took the kids hiking and we all wore Stars and Stripes. Came across quite a few other people wearing red white and blue greeting each other “happy 4th!”

My kids say the pledge in the morning at school and love wearing Stars and Stripes, red white and blue. They call it wearing the “USA flag”. My sons favorite song is Born in the USA and when I put it on he sings and follows Bruce Springsteen playing air guitar and throwing his fist in the air. Trying my best to raise my kids to love and respect our great Country.

Yeah that’s what I understand as well. I was a kid when those songs were released and they bring back good memories of the past. Later in life I listened to the lyrics more carefully. Still great songs and a symbols of American culture

I hung up a flag.
My visitor from Mexico has not been here during the fourth of July.
I said " In New England, flags were common. Here I bet my flag is the only one."
She couldn't understand.
"Santa Cruz is full of depressed, crazy, and foreign people who don't care about having pride."
A common aspect of depressed people is low self esteem or lack of pride. Santa Cruz has no pride.
