President Trump, at an impromptu Thursday morning news conference, hailed the 4.8 million jobs added in June, calling the "largest monthly jobs gain in the history of our country."

In June, the civilian non-institutional population in the United States was 260,204,000. That included all people 16 and older who did not live in an institution (such as a prison, nursing home or long-term care facility).

Of that civilian non-institutional population, 159,932,000 were participating in the labor force, meaning they either had a job or were actively seeking one during the last month. This resulted in a labor force participation rate of 61.5 percent, up from 60.8 percent in May, but below the Trump-era high of 63.4 percent set this past January and February.

I'm optimistic, but until the September numbers come out for August jobs, I'd pause on any celebration. A little surprised Trump came out like he did. We need to see what this looks like once the $600/wk dries up at the end of July. So basically August numbers will be the most telling. Most people laid off are making more right now so this is all funny money at this point.

Although these fucking media turds are still hung up on cases. Fauci must be a made man or something. I don't get how he's still around. I see and smell smoke, just haven't found the fire yet. Still only personally know one person with Covid and that's a chick from high school that I haven't seen in almost 15 years. She's doing just fine. Only got tested because she's a cop.

He’ll be fired by December.

Won't that incentivise more people to get back to work once the generous unemployment benefits are gone?

Yes. This is why there are so many help wanted signs all over the place.

We'll see. Something like this has never been experienced before in anyone's lifetime. Remember that most the people filing unemployment barely wanted to work anyway. They were the grunts of the service industry. Very few skilled or any government jobs were lost. You give the equivalent of $30k/yr salary as a bonus on top of regular unemployment to people that maybe make $30-40k/yr and I'm not sure what the rebound looks like. I'm optimistic, but people gonna be pissed to work for less than the UE beni's. That's all I'm saying.

Hell, I could make it by just fine with 30-40k/yr. Easy to live on little if you have no debt.

That's the problem. I'm in the same boat, most others aren't debt free though.... This extra money was not used to pay down debt. That's almost a guarantee. We'll see how lazy Americans are come August 1st. Not much is gonna change between now and then. Some will go back to work, but those that can milk it will.

There's no power to fight the Fed bazooka, they have deployed less than 10% of their Covid arsenal thus far. Sure you may see inflation, but you won't see a market crash. If you must be a bear watch the tech trannies and their ridiculous valuations, as long as TSLA can print 1k or more next to its ticker and AAPL is going for 400 the more boring smaller cap stocks not in cloud tech or renewable energy are actually reasonably valued to undervalued.

Perhaps a living wage might help - yes ?

No. I didn't even want this bailout. I got $0 from it. What I'll get is a bigger tax bill at some point in the future, but not the people that are currently receiving my huge annual tax bill. It's one of the things that I'm furious with Trump over. We should have just stayed open.

Not one person here or anywhere has presented valid proof that this virus was going to be remotely as bad as predicted. The models were shit and now we've got bull shit data on "new" cases from people months removed from being infected dictating how the government responds. If you don't want to get sick, stay at home. It's extremely easy in 2020.

DILLIGAF says
Debt free you say ? Kindly inform Life, it does not play by the rules you want it to.

Exactly, I know the rules and play by them. I've got same day access to $20k of cash at a moments notice. And another six figures in other accounts that would be more of a pain to get, but would be possible in 2-3 days. None of this money has been inherited from family or some other passive means except for interest, dividends and appreciation on what I saved.

We need to get out of the excuse making game for lazy people. If you're physically or mentally disabled, yes, you should be able to get government assistance. Those people should actually get more if the standards to get benefits are strictly enforced and get the free loaders off the system. Our current system promotes laziness in our lowest income range, so they get stuck there. It also promotes getting involved with illicit activities so they can get cash income. Dealing drugs, stealing cars, robbing houses, etc. which then leads to physical confrontation as in assault and shootings. A living wage would only double down on that behavior.

Then again if "trickle down" actually worked

It does work. It just trickled down to Mexico and India, etc.

Unfortunately the overwhelming majority of Americans are not in the same situation as yourself or most of the people that post/comment on this forum, more like a 180 degree opposite.

DILLIGAF says
Then again if "trickle down" actually worked to even a modest level, things would be on a slightly different footing for the multitudes that do not have $500 in savings or are one paycheck away from financial disaster. This of course does not take into account the stupidity of those making in excess of 100K who still manage to live paycheck to paycheck.

So we make excuses for them. Blaming things like "trickle down" for a person not taking personal responsibility and saving is annoying to me. That's an intelligence, work ethic and budgeting issue. I hate Dave Ramsey, but if most unintelligent and financially illiterate people followed his advice, they wouldn't be cash poor. They may not have the income they want, but they'd have the ability to take care of an emergency.

Anyone working a full time job, even at say McDonalds should have no problem saving $2-3k off to the side because they pay no federal income taxes. They likely get their gross earnings. But no, they just spend it. No one "needs" the newest iPhone. No one "needs" a Lexus over a Toyota. The Mac over a simple PC. The list goes on and on with stupid ways to spend money. That has nothing to do with trickle down. That has nothing to do with a person doing minimal work and the boss not giving them a raise because of it.

We can't keep handing out excuses for people. Same thing goes for groups like BLM. Don't commit crimes and you won't interact with cops. My only interaction was via email last year because of a kid speeding down my street... via email. Don't do stupid shit and stupid shit doesn't happen. Crime wise, financially, etc. Even without religion, people inherently know what to do, they just fuck up the execution of it for whatever reason.
