Some of the net recipients that are blue states are Maryland, Virginia, California, New Mexico, Hawaii, Maine, Vermont, Delaware, and Michigan.

Yes, that includes California.

What has happened as far as politics, socioeconomics, and demographics in California to cause it to no longer me a significant net producer ?

How will this trend continue in California ? Will it become more of a net recipient ?

Well, there goes a Libbie talking point, of how CA pays more to the Feds than it gets. I guess the Dems have finally used up the surplus left for them from when the Repubs ran CA.

It all depends on how you count things. Give me the conclusion you want and I'll craft the statistics to fit.

In case anyone is wondering (from article):
40. California
• Net federal funding: $12 per resident
• Total revenue from fed. gov.: $436.1 billion (the most)
• SNAP benefit recipiency: 8.9 percent (tied - 12th lowest)
• Median household income: $71,805 (8th highest)

First is (because of DFENS spending):
1. Virginia
• Net federal funding: $10,301 per resident
• Total revenue from fed. gov.: $176.8 billion (5th most)
• SNAP benefit recipiency: 8.1 percent (8th lowest)
• Median household income: $71,535 (9th highest)

2. Kentucky
• Net federal funding: $9,145 per resident
• Total revenue from fed. gov.: $70.8 billion (19th most)
• SNAP benefit recipiency: 14.1 percent (8th highest)
• Median household income: $48,375 (7th lowest)

One huge source and sink of federal money is from social security. Suppose a person works their whole life in one state and then flees that state to retire. Is it really reasonable to say the first state is a contributor to the feds and the second state is a taker? Well, I guess that is the case, but it just means the statistic is relevant to absolutely nothing.

Yes, and Virginia is a solid Democrat state. You know who the governor is, and its two senators are Democrats.

California use to be a major contributor now it is a taker. What has happened to California to cause this ?

Yes, as you just described New York and Florida. New York sends it retirees to Florida.

Only recently it became blue. Expect it to be a net contributor soon

By this logic does it mean that CA is turning red soon?

It barely went for Bush in 2004. It has been blue since 2006. That's more than enough time for it to drop from #1 to the middle of the list.
