Most who make less than $20 an hour around here :

clean beach condos that are short term vacation rentals
work in restaurants and bars
work in local amusement parks, gyms, hair saloons
work in retail like Macys, Nike Store, etc.
work in dental offices

And many are now likely making more than they were when they were working if collecting UE +$600 + stimulus. Good luck getting these people back to work.

I have a nephew and a niece who are both making more on unemployment

That is why I wonder this is one reason why Mayor Garcetti of Los Angeles is dragging his feet on reopening Los Angeles.

It's also likely that those on the lower end of the pay scale also don't have a big rainy-day fund.

They don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars in home equity. They don't have hundreds of thousands in a 401k, or tens of thousands in a savings account.

Yes, I agree. They were already on the socioeconomic margins.

Yes and they are all going to get $1200 in free money.

They also get $600/weekly Wuhan bonus on top of unemployment insurance money.

I’m not in favor of people suffering but cry me a river.
