Streeck went on to say that though the virus could "live" on various surfaces for up to seven days, he believed there was little chance that someone could become infected via surfaces, contradicting both the Center for Disease Control and National Institute of Health guidelines.

Streeck posited that in order to contract the virus via a surface like a doorknob, "it would be necessary that someone coughs into their hand, immediately touches a doorknob, and then straight after that another person grasps the handle and goes on to touches their face," Streeck told reporters.

Instead, claims Streeck, his study found that: "There is no significant risk of catching the disease when you go shopping. Severe outbreaks of the infection were always a result of people being closer together over a longer period of time."

Streeck's claims that public activities like shopping and eating out won't increase the risk of transmission...

Streeck said..."It is important to obtain this data in order to make sure that decisions are taken based on facts rather than assumptions. The data should serve as a basis of information for the government so they can then think about their further course of action," he said.

So, panic as usual was caused by bad science. In another interview (in German) Streeck says that main vector of disease spread in Italy is hospitals...that's why we need to shut down all businesses???

And Streeck is no hack: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hendrik_Streeck

He is professor for virology and the director of the Institute of virology and HIV Research at the University Bonn.

I think he is presuming that politics acts out of some sympathetic notion that follows data and science.

"Science? What's that?"

Was watching the Dark Horse podcast this past weekend. They mentioned a paper that came our recently that showed an aerosol influenza virus has a half life of 30 minutes in a darkened room. In simulated sunlight, the half life is less than 3 minutes. Admittedly, a flu virus (not COVID-19) but still, does play into what Reality has been saying...

@Ceffer,
translated from scientist language what he says means that politicians are pulling policies out of their over-sized asses. He is as blunt as any autistic scientist can be.

From my side, this is a also a dig at many Patnet commenters who blindly agree with whatever (usually non-scientifically based) government policies our leaders come up with in cahoots with stupid journalists. Streeck is a real scientist saying that what gov't tells us to do is not based on good science.

Objectivity is male subjectivity and science is a colonial oppression tool used by White Males against Left-handed Latinx Transpeople of Color.

I really don't understand the blind faith. Sometimes what you see matters. If I'm an average swimmer and see 20' waves crashing on shore, I'm probably going to think twice about getting in the water. If the water is smooth as glass I'll get in. Right now the water is smooth as glass, yet people "believe" there are 20' waves for some reason. I don't get it.

Even in NYC the hospitals are doing just fine. Maybe the docs/nurses are experiencing more emotions because there are more deaths with patients that come in? But there's really not much evidence this is remotely out of control. My nurse neighbor is close to being laid off.

What if those that are supposed to investigate and expose the truth wind up pushing their own propaganda like these turds:

This article is being regurgitated over and over. Look at that panel of “experts”. Are you telling me they are more truthful and knowledgeable than the cdc doctors?
