Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has not always shared the opinions he gave to CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday, when he insisted President Donald Trump ignored mitigation efforts and could have saved lives.

“I mean, obviously, you could logically say that if you had a process that was ongoing and you started mitigation earlier, you could have saved lives,” Fauci said on State of the Union when asked if social distancing and stay-at-home measures could have prevented deaths if they had been implemented earlier.

In contrast to his previous remarks, Fauci has a history of downplaying the severity of the coronavirus and insisting that the American people did not need to drastically alter their lifestyles earlier this year.

January 21, 2020: Fauci claimed the coronavirus was “not a major threat to the people of the United States.”

February 29, 2020: Fauci claimed there was no need for Americans to “change anything what you’re doing on a day-by-day basis” during an interview with the Today Show.

March 9, 2020: Well after concerns of the spread of the novel coronavirus had aroused, Fauci suggested that it was okay to take a trip on a cruise if you were a “healthy young person.”

April 11, 2020: Fauci claimed during an interview with Fox News’s Jesse Watters that it was “in January” when he believed that this was a problem Americans needed to worry about...

He hadn't gotten his marching orders yet.

Even Fauci isn't really at fault. You can't make any prediction with unreliable input data hence the models have been crap. But from what we know by now we must reopen soon.

I'm not faulting Fauci, but you can take the necessary actions by assuming worst case scenario and not believing China. That's exactly what Taiwan did.

I want to find the one where Fauci said “I don’t need a mask.”

Here you go: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/preventing-coronavirus-facemask-60-minutes-2020-03-08/

"There's no reason to be walking around with a mask," infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci told 60 Minutes.

While masks may block some droplets, Fauci said, they do not provide the level of protection people think they do. Wearing a mask may also have unintended consequences: People who wear masks tend to touch their face more often to adjust them, which can spread germs from their hands.

But there is another risk to healthy people buying disposable masks as a precaution. The price of face masks is surging, and Prestige Ameritech, the nation's largest surgical mask manufacturer, is now struggling to keep up with the increased demand.

"It could lead to a shortage of masks for the people who really need it," Fauci said.

Trump’s deadly negligence is now demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt.

It is now evident that Trump:

*ignored early intelligence reports of a possible pandemic;
*delayed the ramp up of practical preparations;
*was often more focused on political considerations, on the news cycle and on stock market performance than on epidemiological reality;
*deceptively played down what he knew to be a rising threat;
*coddled China when it should have been confronted;
*instinctively distrusted experts and seemed unable to absorb simple information and sound advice;
*lashed out at aides who took the crisis seriously;
*shifted reluctantly and belatedly from a strategy of containment to mitigation;
*is strangely obsessed with unproven treatments for the novel coronavirus; and
*has systemically lied about the promptness of his own response.

Unadulterated crap.

*Trump shut down travel from China ("xenophobe!")
*Trump allocated 2 billion to a task force early February ("waste of money!")
*Trump shut down non-essential business well before Italy or Spain did, given the timeline of infections ("overreaction!")
*Trump suggested that hydroxychloroquine looked promising, based on east Asian data ("unscientific!")
*Trump keeps Clinton ally and Democratic insider Anthony Fauci as his point man on COVID, to allay concerns about politically-motivated firings / appointments ("Wah, Trump won't let the good doctor speak!")

The hysteria is real. What is "lashed out" at aides? "Instinctively distrusted experts"? "Strangely obsessed"? "Deceptively downplayed"? What do these things even mean, and where is the evidence? Sounds like a B-novel caricature.

If you watched the most recent press conference, Fauci put to rest the idea that he and Trump are at odds. Moreover, he said that it was unfortunate that they didn't have access to all the relevant information and they were caught by surprise as to how bad this was. This caught everyone by surprise...except a select few nations. But life is much easier when you are a small island. Trying to prevent it from coming in the gigantic nation that is the US was literally impossible.

Where's my evidence that Trump

-shut down travel from China? [ https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/31/business/china-travel-coronavirus.html ],

-allocated 2 billion to a task force February [ https://www.cbsnews.com/news/coronavirus-white-house-2-5-billion-plan-vaccine-congress-funding/ ],

-shut down non-essential business on the same timeline as Italy and Spain [ https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/24/politics/donald-trump-coronavirus-strategy/index.html ]

-suggested that hydroxychloroquine looked promising, as did the CDC initially [ https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2020/04/08/coronavirus-cdc-removes-guidance-hydroxychloroquine-treatment/2967852001/ ]

-and keeps Clinton ally and Democratic insider Anthony Fauci as his point man on COVID [ https://www.bizpacreview.com/2020/04/09/doting-letters-donations-raise-eyebrows-over-dr-faucis-devotion-to-hillary-clinton-906695 ].

The government announced a shutdown March 24th, 10 days after reaching the 50-death mark nationwide, similar to Italy and Spain (not well before -- my mistake).

Don't have to, but take off the brackets goofus if you could. Would make the links clickable. My mouse hand is sore and I don't want to copy and paste these links into a new tab. I'm lazy.
