Uh no, and he’d better not say anything like that. Too many people are in too much pain.
What’s changed over the last week is that people are starting to see that his leadership is actually getting us through this very weird crisis, and that he’s doing a decent job of it. No, he can’t appease every fucking moron in every state government, but he’s apportioning resources as required and he’s doing it in time to meet the needs.
Overall, he’s acting precisely like he should, working tirelessly to take actions that will help.
And even with the relentless media negative spin, that fact is getting super hard to hide.

Based on my wife and her fiends, he is now polling well with Vietnamese women who almost universally disliked him and voted for Hillary. The $1200 helped.
4   Shaman   2020 Mar 28, 12:14pm

It didn’t help that China refused to allow international scientists to take samples of their outbreak for weeks and months until it got loose and ravaged the rest of the world. Our people could have been working on tests.
5   Tenpoundbass   2020 Mar 28, 12:16pm

I like how the media keeps saying his approval spiked but they keep reporting just barely over 50% approval if even that.

They are funny fuckers. I shopped yesterday at the epicenter of Latin Americans in South Florida wearing my Trump shirt, and got nothing but praises from everyone.

I totally agree with that

And AGAIN, the media proves to be its own worst enemy.

By hyping the Wuhan virus far beyond the actual danger (literally "orders of magnitude", as those Stanford docs put it in the WSJ yesterday) the media both helped Trump and undermined their own credibility yet further.

Truly, our mainstream media is worse than useless. It is pure evil, filled with hate, provably lying every day in a transparent attempt to spread that hate.

The hate is worse than Wuhan virus. Stop the media-inspired hate and we will all be fine.
7   Patrick   2020 Mar 28, 1:00pm

Based on Stanford doctors who analyzed the data.

And based on Fauci's own paper in the NEJM.
8   Patrick   2020 Mar 28, 1:51pm

It will all become pretty clear in the next few weeks.

Confirmed Cases: 712
Deaths: 10 (1.4%)
Serious/Critical Condition: 15 (2.1%)

Missing piece of Info:

Passengers and Crew: 3700+, skewed far beyond the median US age, with more chronic conditions than the average American.
Time Aboard: ~5 Weeks

And kept under quarantine for weeks in exceptionally dense, close, and confined quarters NOT found among the typical American Living Conditions, nor even in a Hong Kong Slum.

There were ~10x more Indians and ~3x more Filipinos than Americans on board (13), btw.

5 weeks, almost 4000 Passengers and Crew, exceptionally aged and chronically ill, only ~700 cases, and ~10 deaths.

Shared ventilation as well. It's not inconceivable that particles from your mouth could leave your room without you leaving it. Each cabin doesn't have it's own HVAC system like your typical hotel. Factor in surface contamination and the spread is surprisingly low in a contained space like a cruise ship.

Age and health are 95% of this if there hasn't been a mutation. No one needs to be a doctor or nurse to know this.
11   rocketjoe79   2020 Mar 28, 2:37pm

USA numbers of confirmed cases are going up - this is a good sign as it means we are testing a lot better now. Likewise, the % of deaths has already gone back to normal flu levels. But, for this Special Election Year Flu, we had to crater the economy because Orange Man Bad. Unfortunately, a recession or depression will kill a lot more people globally. The Globe depends on strong USA economy. Without the USA floating everyone's boat, a certain number of humans on the margin will die.

Of course, we could give up now and let the Chinese run the world. Ready to accept forced socialism and a complete totalitarian surveillance state?
Why not move there now and try it out? Please.

Hollywood, can you go first?

Total US deaths from Wuhan virus will be lower than deaths from the 2018 flu epidemic in the US.

My Prediction:

1) Over 2 million Americans already have COVID-19 and around 1% of them are unfortunately going to die no matter what, so in 3 weeks we will be over 20,000 deaths. Possibly more since the contagion will be particularly acute in certain cities, thereby overloading certain hospitals.
2) The number of deaths after that fully depends on state actions. It's likely that any state that has an active outbreak will continue to be on lock-down, which should have the case numbers flatten and hopefully decline as long as that continues.

So you agree that this is no more deadly than the seasonal flu? Yes by rate, but no by sheer numbers?

Need to be much more specific. I agree the numbers in the next 3 week period will be no higher than annual flu deaths, if we keep the economy fucked. They will likely pass annual flu deaths in a 6 week period, and we won't be out of the woods yet.

Fair enough. Except we’ll be out of the woods in six weeks. That will put us at near 3 months of exposure total.

I do find it funny that you phrase it as “if we keep the economy fucked” like you’d somehow handle things differently. It’s so obvious you badly want to pin this on President Trump that you try to play both sides of the fence. Pretty ridiculous really.

Careful. There's a presumption that doctors and coroners will report cause of death accurately. I think we'll top 100K specifically tied to CV-19. Unfortunately, I think anyone that dies from a heart attack in the next 2 months will likely have had said heart attack because of CV-19.... Probably without testing as well.

The idea we're being told the truth is laughable. A fucking delusional Joe Biden is the Democratic candidate.... I hate tin foil hat stuff, but if you don't think this is orchestrated by higher ups in some way or another, you're not thinking.

Not at all, I think that keeping the economy fucked is the least bad option.

The reason I made a point to say "keep the economy fucked" is because the right wing propaganda is out in full force pretending that the virus was never a big deal by misquoting and misinterpreting any statement.

If Fauci went on the record saying "After we keep everybody locked in their homes for 3 months we will have only 40,000 deaths which will be no worse than seasonal flu" the right wing fake news machine and Patrick would report: We have been mislead to close our economy! Coronavirus is less deadly than seasonal flu! Fauci ...

What right wing media? Most of the right wing sites are internet based and horribly unreliable, not to mention they are basically pundits and entertainment, not news.

Daily Wire, sometimes Breitbart and Fox, are the only reliable ones. Everything else is the same thing as the left such as mother jones, daily kos, now this, etc. it’s all bullshit, left and right. Can’t imagine why anyone would cite stuff like that as “news”.

What about the quote was selective? Your video doesnt contradict Fauci's praise of Trump doing everything he possibly can, telling the world he and Trump are communicating the same thing from a different perspective, and that the deathrate is looking to be at .1%.

The government's current estimate is apparently this.
81114 deaths. (40k to 160k range) through August.

They predicted 1.6 to 2.2 million fatalities if they didn't mitigate

I'm concerned that in Italy's numbers, they've peaked but haven't declined for a week. That's worrying in that it could mean the R value has been cut to around 1 but not significantly below 1 withe the current measures, and it may take even more draconian lockdowns and more time to decline.

They are declining in Italy. Stagnation among rising total infections is an effective decline and the numbers can be unchanged for days or weeks before they start dropping. No more lockdowns needed.

Getting ready for the "We're not out of the woods, yet." as the numbers slow and eventually plateau.

"Reopening the economy now would be mass murder." says Taxpayer-paid Ed Administrator on full pay $120k indefinite Coronavirus quasi-vacation, drinking her $1000 coffee machine coffee.

I don't think the Ed Administrators are gonna like the results. Unlike the Obama stimulus, where over $700 billion dollars were shuffled to state and local governments for "shovel ready" projects, this time there is only $150 billion allocated to state and local governments. The only figures I've seen for the tax impact of this economic disaster, is from New York. That's where the governor was told that after destroying thousand of businesses, tax revenue was going to drop by about $15 billion. New York's share of the stimulus is $5 billion. That's a lot of $120k do nothing jobs that will be cut. Once reality set in, we will see the reactions from state/ local government employees.

Those do nothing jobs are rewards to relatives of people who do political favors, or have other political value. Any such cuts will be resisted from the top. Maybe Mike Bloomberg can chip in $10 billion to make up for the shortfall.

This is going to be the first time in my lifetime and probably everyone else here, where we're going to see government jobs go away. They'll come back, but people that always thought they were protected are going to get a real awakening. Sales tax is a biggie and you can't eat out 10x's a day when things get back to normal. The money is gone.

I think teachers are gonna start getting heat soon here. Half the job is to babysit and keep the kids alive while under their care. There's simply no reason to be paying teachers their full pay right now if you're a taxpayer in a district that's doing e-learning (bullshit) or simply cancelled spring semester. If left leaning folks wanted to stick it to the rich, since UE benefits are guaranteed by the feds for 4 months, they should want teachers laid off. But they're too stupid to think like that.

There's a federal response and a local response. Financially you all should be most focused on the local response. We're going to find out what towns, cities and villages were prepared. Mine isn't, so that kind of sucks. As long at the sewer and water works, it will be fine. I expect tax increases though coming out of this to make up for their shortcomings.

If they're going to indoctrinate within the context of race/gender/sexual orientation/global warming. There should be a demand that if you're a teacher, you stick to the proverbial "three R's".

The Teachers are the backbone of the Left. When this one isn't calling for Trump Supporters to get ill and die from Wuhan Virus, she's doxing local school choice supporters:

It's very humorous that the same group of people that push special snowflakism, 32 Genders, everybody's 52nd time is special Blossom, are the same people who demand a one-size fits all centrally planned, universal standard for Education. Many even demand that there should be no private schools at all, and certainly not public school choice or charters.

One monster banging around in that fog is the narrative that China started this thing simply to get rid of Mr. Trump. There’s a real baby-and-bathwater proposition. Would China, in effect, blow up its export economy for that, i.e. commit suicide? Because a lot of those prior arrangements will probably not come back — the manufacturing supply lines for this-and-that, the fabulous cornucopia of plastic goodies extruded from all those smoking factories and flushed out to the world, the whole glorious let’s-get-rich extravaganza that Deng Xiaoping kicked off forty years ago. It’s looking like the global economy is on the rocks, perhaps for good, as we knew it. Is China as plumb crazy as, for instance, America’s political Left?

If anything, China has only validated Mr. Trump’s point that America bargained away its industrial independence, and must become more self-sufficient again. True enough. Where I depart from MAGA is my sense that the industrial age itself has probably shot its wad

Trump was absolutely right about America's CEOs treasonously destroying the country by outsourcing to China for short-term profit and executive bonuses. But you can't bleed a country forever. Eventually it runs out of blood.

Our hope now is that reconstruction in the wake of Wuhan virus will orient the country toward self-reliance once again.

That is, if the Left hasn't already destroyed the last vestiges of American unity with daily its acid bath of divisive ethnic and sexual grievance-mongering.
