Get Drunk And Fight Day! Well, that's every day for the Irish.

Whiskey by the barrel full, whiskey by the jar! At life's bar. Whiskey, Whiskey, so good they named it twice!

The Irish stay alive for months after their livers have died.

Whiskey is from the Irish word for water, literally: "uisce", prounounced "ishka"

But then, "vodka" just means "little water" in Russian, so the Irish are not alone in this.

Having discovered my sister's husband was drinking a handle of vodka a day (not a joke) about a year ago, I actually wonder what some alcoholics will do if there's a shortage of booze? One of the few withdrawals that will physically kill you if not in an ER setting in some cases.

And yes, they made their own bed by drinking, so little sympathy here (although I like my beer). But in many cases the CV-19 is afflicting those that smoke the hardest as a respiratory infection. I wonder if cigarettes didn't exist if this would be a nothing burger? Pollution obviously doesn't help either.

Ferment the dead!

I'm so bored. Maybe some Irish Yoga would help:

Those are actually Russians! As is the original photo used to create the "Irish Yoga" tshirts.

Not as funny though. Those Russians have a real problem.

Yep, in Russia and Baltic states there is a 2-3 year median age gap in Men and Women, mostly due to Middle Aged Males drinking themselves to death.

The Irish drink the most per capita in Western Europe, by a very slim margin over the English (who somehow don't notice that the rates are about identical).

But the Russians drink twice as much alcohol per capita as Ireland.

I remember long ago where a Soviet claimed the dumbest thing his government ever did was to introduce a resealable cap on vodka bottles.

I saw some stats a while ago that were surprising. Apparently, South Koreans drink more per capita than either Irish or Russians. The Japanese also have a very high per capita alcohol consumption. I never woulda thought.

Is that alcohol, or alcoholic beverages? Everyone in a country having one shot of sake or a glass of rather light beer per day is different from a population that gets hammered on high proof liquor. I remember how in Norway and Iceland all men where unconscious after 10PM, but I do not remember seeing drunk locals in Japan.

I have corned beef but no cabbage. Still in the freezer. It's going to be fried onions with pink salmon (costco canned) over rice tonight.

According to my SIL who worked in Japan for several years it's pretty typical for so-called "salarymen" in suits and ties to literally lay passed out drunk on the streets every Friday night.

We were in Japan a few years ago and indeed saw some drunk businessmen passed out on the streets.

I was in Masawa. It appears I did not get around enough to see what you saw.
