Mayor Pete Buttigieg will head back to South Bend, Indiana, on Sunday evening to suspend his 2020 presidential campaign, according to a campaign aide.

The big picture: The 38-year-old, gay, small-town mayor ran a historic campaign and shocked the political world by surging to the top of the Democratic field and winning the Iowa caucuses in January. But his inability to gain traction with black voters, as exemplified by his poor showing in Saturday's South Carolina primary, called into question the long-term viability of his campaign.

Between the lines: It's not yet clear which candidate will benefit from Buttigieg's exit. He was widely perceived as sharing a moderate ideological lane with Joe Biden, the winner of the South Carolina primary, but a recent Morning Consult poll showed a tight race for second-choice among Buttigieg supporters.

But Monday, we'll be bombarded with "Biden is more viable than ever" stories, even though anybody with a lukewarm IQ that has seen him for more than 2-3 minutes on stage knows he's pretty much out to pasture.

I never understood why someone who put in all this time and effort would drop out so close to super Tuesday

Bit I'm not a politician
2   Ceffer   2020 Mar 1, 4:23pm

Too bad. He was the only candidate who enjoyed getting shafted.

Lol, exactly. Pulls out 48 hours before he would have started getting super Tuesday results. Doesn't make sense.

Maybe somebody named DNC paid him a visit.

That could be possible. Regardless of religion, I think we're a looooooonnnng way from having an out gay POTUS. However you feel about the topic, I think most straight men would struggle making that vote. And unlike men, most women are rather turned off by gay men from conversations I've had. Very few women dream of being spit roasted.

Trump has his issues, but he's not that despised where people that are uncomfortable with gays would still vote for butt jammer. It was a flawed candidacy although I think he was actually one of the better candidates running. So the Democratic dumpster fire continues with even less viable candidates....
7   theoakman   2020 Mar 1, 5:41pm

A. He's going to lose
B. He can collect some IOUs

For these people, it was never actually about trying to make a difference.

It's probably about him giving an endorsement to the politbureau's favorite candidate, def. not Bernie. Prob Biden or Bloomberg. My bet is on Biden.
9   MisdemeanorRebel   2020 Mar 1, 6:40pm

They're nuts if they're going to try to make Biden the lead again, he's so only halfway in the same dimension as the rest of us...

11   MisdemeanorRebel   2020 Mar 1, 7:05pm

I just looked at the delegates won so far and it makes sense, if they are really dreaming about putting Biden over the top. If you add Buttgieg's delegates to Bidens,... he's even or beating Sanders.

And the funniest part is that party screaming for popular vote, have 2 layers of electoral college in the party and not using popular vote themselves. Supreme bullshit masters.

Dead on. Sanders is the clear "Popular Vote" winner in the Primaries so far.

In the Iowa Caucus, Bernie won the caucus and got 3% more votes than Butt Plug and yet got 2 fewer delegates

It'll get more discordant when Sanders Cleans up California and probably Texas and Minnesota this Tuesday.
14   Booger   2020 Mar 1, 7:29pm

This Buttplug guy had some serious meme potential that will now go untapped.

It's already over. Sanders isn't even a Dem. I get Trump seemed to fluctuate with his alliances to party, but I believe that was mostly business dealings. Bernie isn't a Dem and that base (Clinton types) is never going to vote for Bernie. They are literally going to piss away the House, POTUS and SCOTUS by nominating Bernie. I have a feeling this is going to get hysterical.

Outside of this Corona overhype, things are going fine. There's no need to switch things up in most people's minds even if there was a viable candidate on the Dem side. If Jr. Bush can get 2 terms, Trump has got this all day.

If Trump had made a fraction of the gaffes Biden has - including in the past few days, saying he's running for Senate, that he was in North Carolina, etc. - it would be all over the Media and the Night Time Funny Men would keep it going for months.

There's no better demonstration of the media bias with how quickly they glide over it, if it's even mentioned in the Deep State Media.

I'm old enough to remember Quayle being busted over the spelling of Potato, meanwhile Biden says he's in Vermont when he's in New Hampshire.

Interesting Factoid:

Now that Butt Edge Edge has dropped out:

Biden is now the Youngest of the Major Democratic Candidates - at Age 77

I'm with TPB here - one upon a time I really liked Warren and thought she may become a straight shooter taking on the banking fraud leading to the 2008 crisis, putting many of those worst frauds into receivership. But between then and now she sold out at some point in time (while the bailout under Obummer happened), became a globalist leftoid and - worse - a SJW freak. Still I couldn't vote for any Dem except for Gabbard. So Trump 2020 it is!

She had a past way before TT Timmy, but yeah during the financial crisis she already had sold out or started selling out. Then again, she probably couldn't withstand the money.

So Buttigieg is out... and endorses Biden
Klobulchar is out... and endorses Biden

Me thinks the fix is in...

Reminds me of that old Agatha Christie novel.. And Then There Were None.

What a train wreck.

Let's all write in Montgomery Brewster

Yes, very odd they would get out after going this far, right before Super Tuesday. It is as if they were spoke to and were "suggested" to get out so as not to split the Super Tuesday "moderate" vote that would leave Bernie the clear winner.

Tulsi is still in it to win it!

But the media completely ignores her. She scored the same number of votes as Bloomberg in Iowa,16 each. She edged out Yang in New Hampshire. She placed behind uncommitted in Nevada. She also scored 1.3 percent of the vote in South Carolina. They won't let her debate because she would kick everyone's butt.

Tulsi could still be the dark horse to give Trump a run for his money. She's young and can speak. She's a woman and a minority. From Wiki

The 2020 presidential campaign of Tulsi Gabbard, the U.S. Representative for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district, began on January 11, 2019. Gabbard is polling at about 1 to 2 percent. Should she win, she would become the first female, Hindu, and Samoan president in American history, and she would be the youngest person to ever hold the office. She has made reducing military activity abroad a central message of her campaign.

She has very little chance, but she is still my choice as a registered democrat.

Agreed, at one time Warren seemed to be a centrist moderate who had enough patriotism/common sense to reregulate the stinky banks, and the credit industry. Now she campaigns on Trannie Bathrooms and Open Borders.

Don't expect the Media to tell you why Buttigieg would never have friction - I mean traction - with Black voters.

It's part of the narrative to make sure that the biggest bigot group in America never be outed.

at the risk of sounding racist... when did black (or even non white) voters become so important? For the dems / MSM there is an obvious fixation I never quite understood. But for the general election, give me a centrist (either left or right) that is eloquent and a track record of getting stuff done. Too far left or too ar right and your chances of winning the general drop of substantially.

Just my 1.5 cents

Since they realized they lost the cornerstone that built America - straight white American males. They cleverly made up for the loss of voters by pandering to illegals and immigrants, as well as telling the blacks that the whites are racist in hope of capturing their votes. And to womyn who are more likely to respond to herd mentality prescribed by the MSM.
