Horrible, our schools are failing so much at basic life skills. This why its even more important to teach your kids as much as possible and include them as much as possible in day to day activities. Kids should be should be part home/car maintenance, cooking, and day to day finance when its appropriate.

There wasn't enough time to teach simple budgeting and other life skills in High School.

K-12 is too busy getting kids to memorize the 35 Flavors of Baskin-Robbins Genders

Adulting class?

Funny how an 18 year old who goes to work instead of college figures out all the "Adult" stuff within a year.

I'm so old college kids figured out much of adulting within a year.

I once had a 20-year old intern whose mother had to drive hours to take her to a routine checkup at the doctor's office, because she was too scared to go herself.

Does the course teach them how to suck from a tax nipple?

They took that out of the HS curriculum because of bias against 'anything not college prep related'.

Curiously, they come to college not knowing anything. Simple algebra and geometry is apparently "not college prep"...and two first years of college turn into teaching kids stuff that needed to be taught them in high school

Elections are coming up. They re-named the course "Free Shit And Loan Forgiveness 101 If You Vote Democrat".

Most of these skills that people are deficient in is not the job of the school, but the parents.

Really ? I remember people that worked instead of college that were no less mature, and in fact partying even more than many college kids. Just becasue you have your own place and work and pay bills doesn't mean you have "adulting" completely figured out. Especially back in the day.

Agreed. But my take is that many of the kids that would take such a course (especially at Berkeley) are probably not all that deficient in those skills. The ones that have their act together enough, to take such a course are probably more mature and self aware than average, or at least way more conservative. Most of the less mature less self aware kids often have very different kinds of "adult" priorities, such as those having to do with drinking and sex.

Perhaps this adulting class phenomenon is also somehow partly connected to the current generations often limited social experience which is overly reliant on social media apps.

Another fine example of a lack of parenting in the black community.

Going to be sexist as shit here, but these classes are almost exclusively designed for women. There’s very little need to take a course for most things now. I can’t speak to the college courses, but the ones put on by your park and rec or library are for women to learn some menial task and to socialize in the process.

If I need to learn something I figure it out or go online. Most courses the teachers themselves may not comprehend more advanced parts of what you’re trying to learn. It’s dummy classes so women can hang out and learn the basics of something a 3rd grader could figure out. I’m on a board where we discuss and approve these types of classes. Anecdotal, but 100% correct.

???? Sure seems like one who handles the responsibility of holding a job, paying rent and other bills, plus maintaining a household and budget is quite the adult. I also noticed that when dating in college, the 19-20 year old women who were in the workplace were far more mature that similar age college girls. The college girls were almost like dating in high school.

They dont either, just forced to make better decisions more quickly or they get burned.

I'm not going to list the classes by me as I have no interest in doxxing myself. But here's a quick search and of course Portland pops up... lol. https://adultingschool.com/projects-archive/work/

What man would take any of these? There's not one I would take, that's for sure. It's all fluff and bullshit. Most of this stuff is taught by people that don't have much qualifications to teach the shit. If you're "teaching" negotiation skills to other people, there's clearly a disconnect. You should be out negotiation big deals and making the big bucks and not teaching some community college type course. You're better off networking and meeting/dealing with people doing actual negotiations to learn the art of it. Not from the guy that read a book about it and got some BS certification to teach it.

I'd take digit body language for $11.99. It's where all the insta-whores hang out.

Valid point. Didn't think of it from that perspective.

Teachers are hard to find for these courses. They get tired of burping the students.

There were times when a simple rite of passage would make you an adult:

- The Maasai of Kenya and Tanzania have several rites of passage that carry boys into manhood. Boys between the ages of 10-20 come together to be initiated as the new “warrior class” of the tribe, placed in dozens of houses built for the occasion. The night before the ceremony the boys sleep outside in the forest, and at dawn they return for a day of singing and dancing. They drink a mixture of alcohol, cow’s blood, and milk, while also consuming large portions of meat. After these festivities they are ready to be circumcised with sharp flint stones, making the official transformation into a man, warrior, and protector. Similar to other rites of passage the boys cannot flinch, because doing so would shame their families and discount their bravery.

- In the Brazilian Amazon, young boys belonging to the indigenous Sateré-Mawé tribe mark their coming of age when they turn 13 in a Bullet and Ant Initiation. The tradition goes as so: they search the jungle for bullet ants which are sedated by a leader who submerges them in an herbal solution. The ants are then weaved into gloves with the stingers pointed inwards. An hour or so later, the ants wake up angrier than ever, and the initiation begins. Each boy has to wear the gloves for ten minutes. Enduring the pain demonstrates the boys’ readiness for manhood -- so few cry out as doing so would demonstrate weakness. Each boy will eventually wear the gloves 20 times over the span of several months before the initiation is complete.

lol. The subtle message of an asian schoolgirl in a revealing skirt, who cant be bothered reading a book, but on her back with legs somewhat open to "suggestions" of what school should have really taught you.

"Powerful methods that work every time"

haha!

That's actually a good point. I bet these courses would be great pickup locations.

You're sure to find some hoes who are trying to be successful despite ignoring common life sense for many years, because they always thought they would just rely on a man to do this stuff. Just like how in January every year the gym is filled with tons of people who "want to make a change in their life", but most quit after a few weeks - you will also find some hoes in school who want to quit. After a few tough assignments, some will be tempted to quit in favor of just relying on a confident, competent, successful man to provide for them. Be her successful, rich, fantasy man.
