And here's the real reason why:

Under Obama, captured illegals were given a piece of paper telling them to stay with friends or family until their court date in the USA 2-3 years later.
Naturally, they stayed and never went to a hearing. Even if they did go to a hearing, they stayed regardless of the outcome.
Under Trump, illegals are repatriated to holding facilities in Mexico, typically the first safe country they came to (refugee law) and told to wait THERE for their hearing.

Surprise! Many leave the far less lush benefits environment of Mexican holding areas and return to Honduras and Guatemala or home in Mexico.

Leftist Lawfare fought tooth and nail to prevent refugees from being sent to facilities in Mexico, despite International Law on Refugees (first country, not one with biggest payout).

I think this guy cherry-picked the data, but at the same time, we are most definitely seeing some dramatic drops. From the US Customs and Border Protection site:

I'm thinking of China right now.

Amazing what a dedicated President can accomplish despite desperate resistance from the Democratic Congress, and tepid support when he had a Republican Congress, and every other Federal Court issuing injunctions on enforcing the law left and right, financed by Soros.

It's almost like the policies and the non-enforcement were to blame the whole time.
