Not a crime but, to penalize college campuses by withholding federal funds from those that are deemed to be tolerating antisemitism by allowing debate critical of Israel.
I don’t agree with this order at all. While I find the Paleban protestors despicable and awful, they aren’t worth eroding the free speech rights of anyone. Those assholes should just be subject to public ridicule, not sanctioned by colleges for exercising their free speech. I also don’t think this order will hold up under judicial scrutiny. It appears to be a naked violation of the First Ammendment on its face, and it represents the First time the Trump administration has actively sought to violate the Constitution.
This act simply defines Anti-semitism as part of the federal discrimination laws, namely Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
This bill disallows college authorities from giving in to the Far Left and boycotting Israel while they receive Federal Money.
The real purpose is prevent what is happening in the UK and Europe, where colleges are banning Jewish speakers and scientists from jobs and events based on BDS.
If colleges/public universities want to participate in BDS, they're free to do so without Federal Funding.
If a college endorses "We Levantine Arab sharecroppers are the only legit inhabitants of Israel, therefore we will not buy any Israeli-made goods." they loose funding.
It defends Freedom because Federally supported schools should not make foreign policy. If students don't want to buy Humus, that's up to them. If the school, under Paleban pressure, refuses to buy some Israeli Anti-Virus Scanner, that is NOT up to them. They have to treat the Israeli company like any other vendor in a bidding process.
There's a lot of things this should include, such as anti-male, anti-American, and anti-Western ideology. For example, creating "No White" Events should result in suspended/withheld federal funds as well. Frankly, any Gender/Race/Religion based events at a college that exclude others should result in funding suspensions.
