I’m surprised there is no mention of obesity.

I had a chance to go to Belgium over the summer for about a week.

I was stunned by the high quality of living in the medium and small cities. Brussels not so much.

And its safe to say that Belgium smoke more than US citizens.

A reasonable (but high taxed) system, education, strong infrastructure and a great neighborlyness, good work ethic, and capitol investment may be helping.

And the Belgian people are very considerate, remarkably generous.

Do you know that Asian Americans in the US have a higher life expectancy than those in Japan and Singapore. In an apples to apples comparison, the US does pretty well.

The "comparable countries" don't have the blacks that the US does.

Wow, you determined all that after spending a whole week there as a foreign tourist?

what is more important for increasing life expectancy? Where you live or the choices that you make?

Proper diet and exercise will only get you so far if you live in a war zone.

Also, for many people living in many places, extreme medical care can gain you another 5 or 10 years. That would be things like kidney dialysis, open heart surgery, etc. Might not be exactly "high quality" of life, but that's not the statistic in play. In poor countries, you aren't likely to get that care at all. In the USA that care will be somewhat dependent on insurance and financial situation.

This. Other countries don't label the data the same way we do.
