It's not "towing racket" - it's an idiot owner. From blocking a driveway in the first place to not having her fucking name on the fucking title - all signs of a single-digit IQ.

"The base fee when you get towed varies even more: from $168 in Palm Springs to $537 in San Francisco.

“The disparities in these fees obviously suggests that there’s something strange going on here,” said state Assemblyman David Chiu of San Francisco."

OMFG, we even have assemblymen with single-digit IQs now. "Something strange", genius, is the difference in cost of fucking land between SF and Palm-fucking-Springs.

Idiocracy is here, folks!

"Nancy says she sought to retrieve the Toyota Rav 4 the day after she was towed. But neither the towing company nor Oakland police would let her get it back. The problem was that only her dad’s name was on the title, and he had died in January."

She had 10 months to get around to putting the car in her name and didn't do it. Boo hoo!!!

San Diego has a racket you can see any weekend in the gas lamp. Park go out to dinner then hit some bars. While you are out they erect temporary no parking signs then tow the whole block.

Right in front of 1000s of onlookers.

Every

Damn

Weekend

We could probably also agree that the DMV / government is too slow and inefficient. No excuse for not transferring ownership in the previous 10 months, but government slowness made bad personal decision hard and slow to correct.

Just had a friend try to register a car after planned-no-operation. Requires TWO trips to DMV and of course smog check in between before you can drive. DMV appointments are usually a month or more out and you can’t queue up two consecutive appointments. So, you’re looking at 2 months or trips to the DMV at 6:40 AM to get in line before they open.

Actual the cost of fucking land in SF and Palm fucking Springs is about the same.

Pretty much everything is a racket in CA, esp. in SF.

I have family members like this so I have sympathy. The ironic thing is that the dems have made everything so complicated in an effort to help the poor that they can no longer comply with all the stupid regulations that have been put in place.

Jeez, your uncle died and left you his car. Just go to probate, find the will he wrote on a napkin giving you his car, pay the lawyer fees, court fees, transfer tax, insurance, registration, get it smogged, bla bla bla. It’s only 5 grand moron!

I agree except for that I question their goodwill. Most Dems fucked up this state under the guise of helping the poor, but really they were just in for enriching themselves with the result that one tow in SF can bankrupt an already poor person. Of course they may get caught by the welfare net but then it's us who pay for them. Instead towing shouldnt cost close to a grand and everybody can stay self sustained. But the leftoids don't like that, better creating an army of dependents and then fund their senseless administrative jobs with taxpayer money while calling them racist. Fuck the Dems.

No fucking way. You can buy a piece of desert for a towing yard 10 minutes out of PS much for a fraction of what it costs to buy anything 10 minutes out of SF (which would be what - Daly City, South SF, Brisbane?).

PS is a small town surrounded by a desert. SF is a big city surrounded by the fucking water on three sides and other built-out cities on the forth. I mean, sure, it all looks the same from Saint-Petersburg, Russia, but we, CA residents, know the fucking difference.

Yes, and I go but just don't park where I'll get towed. Most of the time these days I uber anyway. First noticed it happen to a Lawyer pal of mine while we were down there. I think he paid 350 to get his truck out.

It's really amazing that there are no signs about not parking at all then they come in and put up temp signs for part of the night just to tow.

He bitched that he was going to do something about it but I don't think he ever did.

Assume there is no such thing as free parking in 2019.
These greedy mother fuckers want money for the air you breath, how dare you to expect free parking.
How Dare YOU!!!
