Looks like there is some really excellent financing from powerful institutions to stop oil/gas extraction from the Amazon Headwaters, which the usual suspects have titled "Sacred Headwaters" to give a false impression of small size and religious importance.

It's a huge area, big chunks of about a third of Columbia, Ecuador, and Peru. There's nothing sacred about it, people who live there sleep, eat and fuck over the 100M hectares.

Seems like an anti-development crusade.

Pachamama, one of the larger conglomerates, received $5M in 2018, and $4M in the year before that, is based out of San Francisco.

The guy behind it is a wealth guy whose son, Basil Twist Junior, is a puppeteer whose "Art" has been celebrated by the NY Times. He also lists his occupation on some donations as a "Rancher", so "Gentleman Farmer" tax exemption. He's given to Warren, Pelosi, Kerry, Moveon.org, and Mayday PAC (Larry Lessig).
