And will continue to fall for years I expect.

Repeal Prop 13 the mother of all entitlements - that should be the ultimate catalyst to level off.
4   Patrick   2019 Nov 8, 8:55am

Agreed.
5   exfatguy   2019 Nov 8, 9:21am

Asking prices are still insane, though.
6   Malcolm   2019 Nov 8, 9:30am

I may start a thread about a recent development in San Diego. Somehow, slipped by everyone, it has now become illegal to reject a tenant solely because they are on Section 8.

This is going to devastate the investment market in higher end areas.

Not until they reduce Income, Sales and Gas taxes.

FFS - as if we have to pay more taxes to Sacramento?

This is going to hurt my crap shack's feelings again. Houses that would blow up like matchsticks in a 40 MPH wind going for less than a million? What has the world come to.

These are the ill-effects of Prop 13 ironclad entitlements.

No... They were taxing and spending like drunken credit card wenches even back then. Prop-13 was a response to that. With my luck I'll buy a house and lose that protection the next year though.

Not being over-taxed is not an 'entitlement'. Not being shot by a thief is not an 'entitlement'.

Been slipping for the past year

Wrong.
Your life style is supported by your new neighbor of similar property just because he bought later. How come this does not look wrong to you.

Cool.

We are original owners, and a lady in our neighborhood proposed that people who bought at lower prices and paid lower taxes should have only partial votes at the homeowner's association. Jealousy and anger over housing just makes California that much lovelier a sociological place. I am convinced that the Pacific Ocean takes revenge on California by sending ghosts to haunt people's minds and make them as crazy as their craziest potential allows them to be.

Wrong. I make as shit ton of money and CA taxes the shit out of it already to support all the fucking losers that have flopped or illegally immigrated here. I'll be god damned if I buy a house only to see that protection removed too. It's my decision if I want to buy in at a higher rate than others who've been here a long time. I don't have to live here.

I think leftists might be becoming a separate species with a special 'envy lobe' in their tiny little brains.

1. You made my point correct again and rest my case.
2. You(and lot of others in the past) failed to explain why you and your similar neighbor do not pay same rate (current 1%). (hint: (3) below)
3. You bring in every other topic to confuse (stone soup) to keep continue to support and fight for the Prop 13 entitlement/benefits.
4. Unfortunately it is not easy to get rid of any entitlements/benefits once it is in place. That is the power of entitlement/benefits people love it and fight for it and justify why they (poor/rich/super rich) deserve with all sort of reasons(rich/super rich) and emotions(poor).

No, I didn't make you're point. You're just being obtuse. Grow a pair and exert that energy on being productive and then you too can afford to live in CA. Even better: Vote the damn democrats out. There is your real problem.

That does not help as you failed to address my point (2).

from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1978_California_Proposition_13
... long resident tenure benefited the most, with San Francisco property owners paying an effective tax rate of 0.6% on market values and Palo Alto, California property owners paying a nationwide low of 0.42%...

Now you know, why people stick to point (4).
21   Patrick   2019 Nov 10, 2:32pm

It's definitely wrong that some people pay a lower property tax than others for no reason other than they have been there longer.

We should all be equal under the law.

I'd go further and say we should eliminate income tax and have only a land value tax, but I've said that before.

Sadly, the odds that we can replace the income tax with a land value tax seem low at this time.
22   Blue   2019 Nov 10, 3:31pm

Thank you so much Patrick for your kind comment - "We should all be equal under the law."

Perhaps a best analogy of Prop 13 is Islam. A parasite lives and thrives on other people, by using a broken circular logic in the name of f* god that does not exist.
