Tucker Carlson: "Almost every nation on Earth has fallen under the yoke of tyranny -- the metric system"
"Esperanto died, but the metric system continues, this weird, utopian, inelegant creepy system that we alone have resisted"

A liter = 0.1m^3 of water = 1kg.
A ton = 1000 kg
A km = 1000m.
A cm = 0.01m
Water freezes at 0, boils at 100 degrees.

Tyranny right there. Imposed at the business end of the guillotine.

We shouldn't give an inch.
2   Ceffer   2019 Jun 6, 5:25pm

Give 'em an inch, they take a meter!
3   FortWayneAsNancyPelosiHaircut   2019 Jun 6, 5:31pm

An inch here, inch there. Pretty soon you get a meter.
5   Shaman   2019 Jun 6, 5:37pm

What does it meter?

Surely I can C° that there is a better weigh.

If he was serious this is stupid but everyone says something stupid once in a while.

As an American scientist I must say: Metric is way fucking better!

My 3rd grade teacher proclaimed we'd all be switching to metric soon. Never happened. Maybe she didn't realize how many American's still didn't (and still don't) believe in evolution.

PS. I've never liked that fucker Tucker. He has a punch-me face. He's also a man-traitor.

Why should you have a measuring system that makes sense, when you have an arbitrary, antediluvian, inefficient, cumbersome system invented by primitives, but that everybody knows and loves?

I use metric for everything mostly, base 10 makes sense in the city for science anything.

But I do get reasons why so many use feet/inches, out on the farms life is different, not much science, measuring things in horses and feet still works. It's hard for them to visualize things in metric. As long as no one is forcing anyone, we are fine. My science classes back in the days even were all in metric, although they taught us conversions too just in case we ever need to deal with inches and feet.

Aviation world-wide still uses the "old" measures. Altimeters world wide are still in "feet." All distances are in nautical miles. Speed in knots.

In fact, if the French were truly smart when inventing the metric system, they would have made the meter 1,000th of a nautical mile, not one millionth the distance from Paris to the north pole. One Nautical mile equals one degree in latitude.

It is base 10 only for the simplest measures. How many Dynes in a Newton? Also, how come not 100 seconds in a minute, 100 minutes in an hour, and 10 hours per day?

Wouldn't help Americans.
A nautical mile is 1852m instead of 1609m for "miles".

The international nautical mile was defined in 1929, a long time after the French created meters.
There were all sorts of miles before that. The British nautical mile. The U.S. nautical mile. The original Roman mile....

TIL Earth has a circumference of 360 nautical miles!

One nautical mile actually equals one arc-minute, or 1/60 of 1 degree.

A minute at what speed? Or is this a really stupid question?
16   SunnyvaleCA   2019 Jun 7, 3:07pm

The metric system is base 10. Everyone knows we should be moving to a base-8 number system! Once we move to base 8, then we can move to a base-8 metric system!

Arc-minute, not arc/minute (which doesn't make sense either.)

An arc-minute is 1/60th of a degree of arc; an arc-second is 1/3600th. It's a measure of angle.

Yep, I mistyped. Meant 1 nautical mile equals one minute of longitude.

People, the entire segment is entertainment. It's not made to be taken serious. Please calm down. :-)

So I figured. I've seen flat-earthers and young-earthers, but you'd be the first and only small-earther I'd ever heard of!
