A surprising riposte from AFisS.

Amazon opens first Go store that accepts cash
In the new store, employees will swipe those who want to pay by cash through the turnstile entrance. After shoppers grab what they want off the shelves, an employee will scan each item with a mobile device, take the cash, give customers their change from a cash drawer and hand them a receipt.
We need to send in a crack Pat.net team to test the system. I bet cash buyers are whisked away in a black SUV -- never to be seen from again.

I've heard of this thing... I think it's called a... store!!

For once, I applaud SF city government... Accepting cash should be MANDATORY. All debts, public AND PRIVATE.

Not really surprising as that is his line.

Meanwhile, some restaurants require (or at least prefer) cash ... presumably so they can evade taxes.

I'm not advocating for a cashless society. I use cash and will continue to do so when necessary. I don't think government should regulate whether a business can or cannot use cash though. That's an overreach. If they want card only, fine by me. They may lose some business for sure. Not as much as a cash only business. Cards/electronic means are a massive time saver for both the customer and vendor anyway you slice it.

As with the other thread, the use of cash as a means of privacy is not foolproof if that's the reasoning. Use if you like to. I'll use my card, with information everyone already has regardless of how hard I try to hide it and get paid while using the card. Now if you don't have a mortgage, job, car, normal cell phone, bank account, etc. then keep it cash by all means and enjoy the tent down by the river to keep your privacy.

That did not work, now the whole world knows about that tent down by the river.

How's a homeless guy going to get his Starbuck's if he can't use a bloody bill he used to wipe off his track marks?

Except for the part where an employee has to "buzz you in", like at a jewelry shop. You literally can't walk into the Amazon Go store with a fistful of dollars unless a sales associate thinks you're worthy of entry.
