Stop Wasting Your Money on College

By cmdrda2leak follow cmdrda2leak   2019 Apr 4, 10:57am 1,836 views   26 comments   watch   nsfw   quote   share

Don’t go to college. It’s a scam.

Before you or your well-meaning ‘tiger parents’ who buy into the prevailing wisdom that a college degree is necessary to be successful in life take to Twitter to rile up a mob and ruin my life — hear me out.

Higher education is important and a privilege — but if you don’t know what you want to do, what you’re passionate about, what road you want to take — college is the most expensive way to figure it out.

These days, college is a luxury that only the rich can afford and a racket that ensnares everyone else in a lifetime of what is essentially indentured servitude and perpetual childhood. You will be buried forever under the weight of your student loans and forced to subsist on avocado toast in your well-meaning tiger parents’ basements.

Some desperate people are even breaking the law to give their dumb offspring the chance of getting into a top university. They should save their money! There are many ways to get an education and have a great career without saddling yourself in a lifetime of debt. No one tells you this — but the biggest myth we sell in America isn’t the idea that it’s a meritocracy — it’s the idea that you need a college degree to get a job.

You don’t.

You want a guaranteed six figures a year? LEARN A TRADE. There’s a shortage of skilled tradespeople in this country and it’s only getting worse. We need plumbers and electricians. BECOME A NURSE. Not only is being a nurse handy in the post-apocalyptic wasteland that is coming for us all—it will also secure you a spot in someone’s bunker. LEARN TO CODE.

Here's what's the greatest open secret in society ... most ppl know that they use less than 10% of what they learned in college for their career. And pleaz, for those in STEM who claim that their "advanced statistical thermodynamics" is useful, just shut the fuck up. You know that those national laboratories only hire 1-5% of their STEM applicants for those types of theoretical jobs.

With that in mind, why is it that society can't admit that we really don't need college at all, aside from that white collar barrier of entry?

And Mark can still get a lower cost bachelors degree part-time online w/ zero debt. If anything, Megan's looking like the biggest idiot out there.

Yes. A better investment would have been implants, so she could jiggle enough during feminist rallies to attract a rich wimp-cuck to support her, pay off her debts, and put her in good litigation stead for future divorce.

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life in college and I’m still trying to figure it out.

In the meantime, I’ve spent the last 15yrs using my Electrical Enginering degree to work as a tech manager in the Silicon Valley while I figure it out.

Maybe that college degree was worth something?

If I was just graduating HS I would either go into the military, go into construction or go to college (or intensive full stack training course) for computer science. If I chose construction, I would learn as much as possible by working 60-70 hours a week and then opening my own business a.s.a.p.

Any one of those options, for a motivated person, would be a guarantee to success. IMO

Don't worry, your kids won't be admitted anyway:

The College Board said it would implement what it calls the "Environmental Context Dashboard," which would measure factors like the crime rate and poverty levels of a student's neighborhood, to better capture their "resourcefulness to overcome challenges and achieve more with less."

This is part of a war on Meritocracy. Cast light on the ridiculousness and inherent hypocrisy of this.

No one will hire Mark with online degree, since mark will just pay his friends to take online tests for him. Or he will use one of tens of websites, such as this one, https://paymetodoyourhomework.com/take-my-online-class/.

Overall, just get a BS degree, then go to Physicians Assistants or nursing school, and you have a pretty good career.

Sorry Rin, statistical thermodynamics is related to information theory, which is used in many places and could well be the future in artificial intelligence. People learn more than they need for good reasons: it could be useful and they at least need to know what's there. Plus it gives them cognitive paths that can apply to other things.

Lots of people in this country despise education. Many because it makes them feel inadequate.

Usually.
My wife has a couple masters degrees and a full time tenure job at a local college.
I have a bachelors degree i don’t use (but which came with loans i had to repay), because I went blue collar after college, and learned a bunch of tradeskills that got me a job fixing very specialized heavy machinery. I make double her salary. If I cared to work nights, I’d make triple.
I also have better health insurance (she uses it instead of hers) and a better pension.

A lot of people I know from high school also went into a trade and are making good money. It’s really about what you know how to do and what that’s worth to other people.

I wonder what they pay their contractors? Because I’m sure they don’t hire actual employees. Still, I guess a college educated person might qualify for that sort of job.

They usually hire current students, so probably pay is not too good.

I've seen this, all over the greater Boston for much of my life.

Really, outside of being a doctor or working finance, i.e. trading or underwriting securities, most careers are not so scalable.

I have a degree in Applied Chemistry/Chemical Engineering and yes, I've even used some of our phase boundary ideas for the hedge fund risk assessment software. The point is that a vast majority of white collar workers don't use their university education for anything.

Penn State's online degree is the same as on-campus

https://www.worldcampus.psu.edu/about-us/why-world-campus

Excerpt: "Our online courses are the same courses that we offer on campus. Therefore, your diploma will look no different from those earned by students on our physical campus. It will not differentiate the method of delivery or state that your degree was earned online."

Ok, but as you know, the future 'white collar' job will simply submit a request to Penn State's registrar's office asking this... "Did John Doe get a BS degree in economics in the year 2015?"

When the answer is 'Yes, graduating GPA 3.5' the inquiry is over.

Also, London University's system requires one to show a passport at their various testing centers across the Commonwealth so unless someone is really willing to risk arrest, it doesn't seem like it's worth it. Better attend Univ of Phoenix.

No,I don't agree with you at all. And I am not surprised that you took everything I wrote out of context, then tried to spin everything to fit your bullshit narrative.
