Why can someone else censor my pat.net experience?

If someone wants to block their own experience fine, but why does an ignore block the passive users experience?

We only have a few dozen active users. It limits my enjoyment of the site to read along and see gaps where jazz or some other snowflake blocked me.

Therefore, pat I've suggested this before but can you please edit the ignore button? Noone else should effect my pat.net experience, and vice versa. Agree or no?

This same thread topic came up last year - from the same respondent.

You can read anything anyone has posted when you are not signed in - therefore there should be no loss to your "enjoyment" on the forum.

Perhaps getting some input from the 5 members who have you on ignore would be a good place to start.

Calling people snowflakes is not helping your cause.

Not so sure how it limits your "enjoyment" as much as the ability to troll - just sayin.

For the record - no - I do not agree. After a quick perusal of your comments - surprised the number of ignores is not higher.

My main problem is that they shouldn't even see my post in the first place but Patrick lets them.

Why do you care if you cant see their reply? Why do you have the right to censor other users experience?

If patrick actually did what you suggest I would start a new account or just stop interacting here. Why would I want to see only the people who agree w me?

You dont get to kick someone else out of the party. That is the point.

You are free to block whoever you want, you are not free to control other users.
7   Patrick   2019 Feb 21, 6:51pm

@OccasionalCortex this is a hard problem. "Trolling" as I see it is making deliberately inflammatory remarks in order to enjoy the resulting flames. It's not fun, but the right answer imho is just to ignore it. If you ignore it, they don't get their payoff and are disincentivized from doing it again. If you "feed the trolls" by responding with obvious anguish, the troll wins and is incentivized to do it again.

You can put the troll on ignore, and be done.

People used to not use ignore because they didn't like the idea of a troll mocking them where they could not easily see it. (You can always log out or open a new "porn" window to see the site completely unfiltered.)

But since the moderation policy is simply not to attack other users personally, that should not happen. And if it does, let me know. I can downgrade the privileges of repeat abusers (who keep insulting the other users) so that everything they say will have to go through moderation.

At one time, you had the site roll off ignores after like 30 days. Why not bring that feature back? Let posters re-ignore after 30 days, or maybe they'll leave it be.

If you notice, it's a the hard Lefty leaners that predominantly use the ignore function. They are the ones that lack tolerance for any other opinion but their own. It's like they want to live in their own self-enclosed echo chamber, unwilling to consider the opinion of others. Must be a sad world to live in.

@CBOEtrader So you do want to see the comment of people who have you on ignore? You could log out to do that, but I admit that is inconvenient.

It's a dilemma: you'd like it more, but the person ignoring you would like it less.

Huh, what to do? What principles am I trying to promote? That's also kind of a dilemma. I'm promoting the right to speak (except for insulting other users), but also the right not to have to hear from certain people. Maybe the right to have people not see your comments is not an important right.

And once you've ignored someone, why should you have to do it again? I can see that you might have changed your mind after 30 days, or not find them annoying anymore, and that might get more discussion between the parties going, also a goal.

Yeah, ive noticed, which is why my engagement has gone down. I often read the site w/o logging in, then the extra step of loggin in on my phone and losing my quote, etc... i just dont go through w the trouble.

If this were reddit it wouldn't matter, but how many active users do we have here? If the 10 most active Trump supporters cant see what the 10 most active TDS sufferers write, whats the point?
13   Patrick   2019 Feb 21, 7:07pm

All right, I agree. I'll make ignore one-way tonight.

If you ignore, you don't see the user. But the ignored user can still see the ingnorer.
14   CBOEtrader   2019 Feb 21, 7:15pm

I'm a big fan of the ignore button. If a comment is trollish, zap it.

My interest is this site is in understanding other perspectives. I WANT to know the reasoning behind why TDS sufferers think Trump is racist or a yuge liar. If I am missing something I want to know. If there are relevant facts to support a contradictory perspective, I want to know. I also find it interesting to see how people engage in confirmation bias, rejecting facts that disagree w their chosen narrative. Everyone does this to an extent, but i find it interesting to see why/where/when groups do this w extreme righteousness like today's left or 1980's christian fundies or 1930's weimar germany.

So yes, I am most interested in the psychology that results in contradictory opinions.

Thanks for trying the new change.
15   FortWayneAsNancyPelosiHaircut   2019 Feb 21, 7:30pm

It’s confusing too. I think ignore should ignore other persons posts. Not hide me from those I ignore.

It’s opposite right now which is confusing. Would be nice if posts simply had a label of “this user is ignoring you”. Only 3 people use this feature as far as I know.
16   Patrick   2019 Feb 21, 7:31pm

OK, it's done.

Now you should be able to see comments by people who are ignoring you.

And another request is done. The default comment list length is now 80 instead of 40. So you won't need to click the "next >>" button as much to see more comments.
17   just_passing_through   2019 Feb 21, 9:21pm

I still want to be able to block/ignore people who post dick pics. And HeyYou. I scroll past the others I don't want to read but a flash of hairy balls burns my eyes. Someone messed up the neked chicks thread too with some funky gnawed on looking nipples. I didn't block them but I sure wish they'd delete that post.

Has anyone seen my red stapler?
18   Patrick   2019 Feb 21, 9:50pm

You can still block people by clicking ignore next to their name.

The difference is that when you block them, now they can still see your comments. Before, if you ignored someone, that would also hide your comments from them.

That was actually pretty confusing, and so was another reason to stop doing it.

If you don't like someone, put them on ignore. It's just a simple button click. Marcus put me on ignore for example, and I never trolled him either, we simply disagreed on a lot.

Left is super fascist. They do everything Nazis did. They found a group of people (in this case whites), whom they blame for everything, and demand that group be marginalized and their stuff redistributed.
They hate white people
They use "white privilege" as a call to assault whites
They promote violence against anyone who is white or wears a Maga hat.
They block anything conservative or white in the media
They promote anything that is anti white and anti conservative.
Their political candidates are leftist anarchists who hate white people.
To sum up, left are modern Nazis.

But either way, I've got a tax cut. Just always lived frugally, not a problem with tax cap deductions.

Show me you dont have TDS and make a rational case against Trump. Should be easy

Hacking occurred before Patrick made the change. You were not able to see my posts before the change once you logged in, just like I can not see you right now. BULLSHIT !

The "feature" was not broken.

If the "feature" was broken, how come it was only broken only on certain days on certain threads at certain selective times for certain people?

How about explaining the need for three different account names if trolling is not the end game?

The above would also apply to several other respondents as well.

By the way I still have all three versions of Fort Wayne on ignore and can not see any comments right now from any of them.
