Boring Core Tubez are about 1/4 the size of of a standard tunnel; size is one of the reasons they are so efficient. BART is stealing a page from Musk, though, and going with a single, deep bore so as to minimize disruption on the surface streets of downtown San Jose (BART has traditionally used "cut and cover" which is very disruptive).
I do wonder about some Boring Co. Tubez under the Bay (not sure I'd want to get stuck down there, though). Tubez? Under the Bay? Check out what the SFPUC did: 15 ft diameter, 5miles long, and 40 feet below the Bay.

And why do you post links to a paywall site? I refuse to purchase a subscription for the Merc just because you have one.

I'm able to get into the Mercury News if I disable my ad blocker and enable javascript (using NoScript plugin) on some of their caching partners like cloudfront.net.

As the page is loading, I hit the key and everything is fine. I have ad blocking and script blocking.
