Doing some work on my condo so I can raise my rates on VRBO. Been here a week so far and lots of driving to, "get stuff".

This place is more of a political bubble than the SF gay area. When I was there I could at least find non-leftist points of view on the AM radio.

Here nada.

Just a bunch of lame ass fuckers on NPR and other channels blaming Trump for the mail bomber. It's all due to violent Republican rhetoric. So one sided it ain't funny. So dramatic and emotional about it too. Trump is such a low brow meanie!

Concerns me from an investment standpoint although I hear the state is relaxing restrictions after starting to realize they are destroying their tax base by being eco-nazis to the point where many buildings aren't allowed to repair things like sink holes after storms.

Yup, Maui is another liberal paradise, with rich libs stuffed with filthy lucre in mansions, YuppieFuck high rises along the beaches, while knots of homeless and drug addicts steal everything that isn't nailed down in all the parks.

Are you worried about new regulations for vacation rentals there? I was looking into it earlier this year (in part, due to your posts here), and had found some videos of the city council meetings, where they had some guy do research on the impact of vacation rentals. Many people in that meeting had a negative tone, but not all.

I was on the Big Island and Oahu this year looking around, scoping SFH as potential rental units. Some of them on the BI are very affordable. I read they were considering making new vac rentals only be allowed in places properly zoned for it (eg, where hotels and condo buildings probably are). They considered grandfathering in all SFH existing rental units, letting them continue to operate so long as they pay the new tax they want. But, if people are no longer allowed buy a SFH and make it into a vac rental, it would seem that would sharply lower demand for SFHs. This really scared me, from the perspective of someone who may buy a house there...cutting the demand can't be good for resale.

I wonder though...if they give SFHs the axe, that might help condo owners like you. The vacation rental demand growth would have less supply, making your condo more valuable.

Another issue in Hawaii is racism against white people, including hate crimes. "Kill Haole Day" peaked in the 1970s, but anti-white racism remains pervasive.

Hawaiians should compare their fate with that of Tasmanians and be fucking grateful. Immensely, enormously grateful. Because not all "haoles" invading some islands are as soft-hearted as the ones invading HI.

Also, the so-called indigenous people group in Hawaii only got there in the 11th century AD or so. Before that, not really any humans at all. Maybe not even any mammals before then. So really, in the grand sense of things, everyone involved is a recent "colonizer".

You bet! We're zoned for this but I don't trust lefty politicians. They keep writing bills, gutting them and re-writing them and some of the language I've seen is quite hostile to off-island owners. I have a biz license, pay GET and TAT taxes and have on-island contacts but still dread the final outcome. Or, should I say next outcome.

But even worse is the how they block condo buildings from shoring up sea wall and fixing sink holes. Their attitude is, "Eff you, yes, you're gonna fall in the water because fishies!". Both buildings adjacent to mine have sinkholes. Now if you're a resort not only will they let you fix them but they'll give you funds to do so - or so I've been told by neighbors living here.

There were also multiple waves and the second wave killed or enslaved the first. Hawaii was a strong caste society where nobility had all the power and could order the instant death of ordinary people. Incredibly violent, too.

Of course, in their POC bullshit fantasy, it was a land of great peace justice and prosperity until the Haole showed up.

Many the Imperial Japanese would have been better for them than the White Man.

The Polynesians wiped out several ethnic groups to the last person, but that somehow doesn't make it into their telling of the History.

As a daily listener of NPR from 9-10, 12-1, and 4-6pm.
Here's my honest take on NPR's attempt at being impartial and bipartisan.

They'll play a prerecorded callers message, it may be Pro Trump or just more to the Right than the NPR's assembled discussion panel.
The person will say why it's important to protect the 2nd amendment, or that Trump is doing a good job.
The NPR Host will always then without fail say to his panelists...
"OK Now for Carl that last caller what do you say to him?"

Then there's 5 Liberals to dissect, spin and project their Liberal view. The caller is never available to respond. And NPR never has a Conservative commentator to keep that callers argument in play. NPR has no desire to keep Conservative POV in play in their discussion panels.

So let's be clear. When a group of invaders take your land, resenting that isn't racism. By your definition, Irish are racist against English.

Respect our language.

You have to have an on-island contact and the price and services for that vary greatly. I'm not sure that the law has changed yet that requires you to post that in your unit but I do. I have 3 contacts. On-island contact info definitely needs to be 'on-record' with the building HOA.

I basically do the property management myself though. It's pretty standard to pay 30% to hire someone as a PM. When I bought the place I honored the former owner's reservations/management for 3 months and found that it was more like 50% as the 30 was taken from the gross not net. I still made money but now I'm making lots more. I'm expecting I'll be spending a lot of that over time maintaining the place. I'm about 25ft from the water and suspect the new TV I bought for instance may only last a few years.

When you can't fix a sinkhole in your yard that's worse than the EPA saying you can't use your yard because the rain made a puddle in it so now it's a 'wet-land'.

Hilarious. I'm just saying that GMO crops are a bigger ecological threat, so I don't believe the environment is really their reason behind this rules.
23   Ceffer   2018 Oct 30, 10:14am

Maui has split economies. There is the standard commercial economy with chain stores like Costco. There is the relatively cheap underground economy, from Filipinos and natives for each other, but also available to tourists if they look. Lastly, there is rip off HaoleFuck economy fleecing the mainland tourists at huge markups.

So true, people ask if I live here and I tell them I go back and forth to my condo. Prices are roughly halved after that. Then I give a generous tip.

Do you even reason, bro? Read the linked articles and show me current examples of comparable behavior in Ireland, e.g. attacking children simply because their parents are English. Respect evidence and reason, and our language.

Yeah. In Ireland, they BOMB English.

See, an act of aggression, by itself, doesn't allow you to automatically cry racism. You have to examine root cause, not just throw around words like "reason". Root cause of Hawaiian hate for whitey, conquering of their islands, primarily to use as a military base. I feel like I shouldn't have to explain this, but you seem to have a disconnect between your reason and root cause analysis.

I got a question for you - is there really any difference between modern "GMO" created crops and ancient created crops like corn? After all, corn only grows where humans plant it, and corn was created from a form of grass by the ancient American Indians through selective breeding or some lost technique.

Basically no. Same with cows and just about everything we have eaten for 1000s of years. Just quite a bit quicker and requiring much less luck.
