Excuse so perfect in fact that it is almost hard to believe.

Apple didn't like it: "On this we can be very clear: Apple has never found malicious chips, “hardware manipulations” or vulnerabilities purposely planted in any server. Apple never had any contact with the FBI or any other agency about such an incident. We are not aware of any investigation by the FBI, nor are our contacts in law enforcement.".

This is my only hope that engineering jobs will come back to America.

I have long wondered about the impossibly cheap add-on cards on ebay. What is in those cards? Apple might not have found a problem, but there might be many problems in the PC / Linux world of people taking apart their machines and adding cheap generic/anonymous cards.

You would think US manufacturers that design the computers, and have them assembled in China, would verify that everything is exactly as per their specs.

You would only think that if you had never spent much time working inside a large company. One hand doesn't usually know what the others are doing, and things don't always go the way one might hope.

...and then eyes are fixed on the cash coming in.

They had more than one design. One was embedded (hidden) between the layers of the board. You don't find that unless you are expressly looking for it. I'm all for banning not just placing tariffs on 100% of China derived tech goods. Not just that but they have had all sorts of sweet technology transfer deals with the NSF and others for decades. If it hasn't already all of that shit needs to be ended immediately. We are at war with them whether we know it or like it or not.

Well, if they admit, it will hurt their imports.

I wouldn't think that because it would be an additional cost. Only people who believe they are protected by corps or govt. agencies would believe that.

And that those jobs are filled by chindians.

Just thinking outside the box (I think it's called being a conspiracy theorist). If there really were chips implanted, why is it assumed to be for the benefit of the chinese? Is it because only the Chinese and Russians spy on people? And that US companies never spy on the competition. Or that the NSA would never stoop that low?

No shit! And it should! There’s absolutely no reason they couldn’t manufacture Apple products in the USA. The only reason is that they wanted to make 500% profit per sale instead of only %400 profit by hiring Americans.

Almost all mattresses are still manufactured in the USA, and mostly locally to the area of distribution. This is because they’re expensive to ship. They’re still ridiculously cheap to make even paying Americans decent wages. I talked with a shop foreman in a mattress factory for Certa. He says materials are around $78 per mattress, and labor adds another $50. They retail for close to $1000 so you know there’s plenty of profit built in! The labor costs alone weren’t enough to offset the crippling costs of shipping mattresses from china. So they get made here.

Not only that, but all suppliers and related support that would set up operations around a iPhone plant.

This is why you should only store data on servers you build.

Motherboards from Taiwan are ok.

This is why you invest your own money instead of letting the bank do it for you. This is why you cook your open food instead of letting McDonald's do it for you. This is why you build your own servers instead of letting China do it for you.
