Wowzer. For those Chicago people on here or former Chicagoan's, this is big news. There's nothing in the article really, just breaking, but this is interesting to say the least. Can't wait for the Chicago Latino and Black response. This (mayoral - not mid-terms) election is going to get crazy.

Interetsing-even he couldn't take it anymore! Maybe he will move to FL to save on property taxes!!!

Didn't expect that much honesty from that corrupt fuck. Surprised he had the cojones to admit his failure.
3   WookieMan   2018 Sep 4, 11:24am

I think there's more to this then meets the eye. He would have won in a run off election almost certainly, which it would have come down to that. Ego's need to be fed and I'm thinking there might be something legal in the background for this decision. Being the king of Chicago is kind of a thing. We'll see what comes out.

Total fail is the least of it. He was in charge while mass murder was being committed every week. Perhaps he finally couldn't live with more blood accumulating on his hands every day.

The crime is/was bad for sure. It was basically congregated in 4-5 neighborhoods though and citywide, really is not bad. And sick as it sounds, most killed were not very productive members of society. For sure it looks bad, but if the people in those neighborhoods don't care, why should outsiders?

I feel like there's something in the closet on this one given Chicago's history. Petition signatures need to be in by Nov. sometime to get on the ballot for mayor. Just seems like something fishy is going on.

Kind of like John Lindsay Lite.

High crime, pension debt at around $11,000 per capita, declining private sector, Chicago is going to become Detroit part 2.

Yeah, if anything the high crime is driving the people out of the city that aren't contributing all that much. I just saw dr6B's comment as I'm typing this. Population doesn't matter if it's trash. And yes, people with money are leaving for sure. But there's also people moving downtown with lots of money as well. That should be the focus and not one person in and two persons out. Quality of population is a thing.

Chicago can't and won't be a Detroit. Too diversified among business. Detroit was auto and that ended, well, everyone knows how it ended. I'd frankly put large sums of money in Chicago if your timeframe is 30 years or so as an investment. Winters suck, but not having water probably would suck worse. The next 10 years or so water is going to be a thing, even for us Americans. Chicago and the midwest has plenty.

Why would I? I would never live or invest money into a place like ShitCago. I hope the entire pension scheme collapses, that's about it.

Who can surmise why you do the things you do...

But if ShitCago is your idea of funny wordplay, then I'd suggest you not move to Chicago. The folks there are a bit more clever than that...

Gonna have to agree with Leon here. Chicago is fine and here to stay. Was Detroit even ever a top 10 or 20 city? Even if it was, it was all based essentially on one industry. That industry crashed and so did the city for sure.

Chicago has crime, no disputing that. But if you live here (or nearby) the crime is inconsequential to the average person. Like I said, 4-5 bad neighborhoods trash what truly is an amazing city.

And I hate cities if that means anything.

Yeah - but all the smaller cities around Chicago are getting raped with insane property taxes to prop up all the corrupt municipal union pensions and expensive government. It's crazy how high property taxes are compared to the mortgages. Alot of these people are trapped in their homes now. Who in their right mind would move there when you can commute from Wisconsin or Indiana?

I can justify the high cost of living in an exotic and beautiful place like coastal California. But crap-ass Illinois?

This is why people are fleeing Illinois at record numbers.

yup-village mangers get 200-300k here and pension and other benfits-which is more than most Governors.
17   Ceffer   2018 Sep 5, 12:50pm

Even with the taxes, you can still have a pretty nice urban lifestyle in Chicago nine months out of the year (when it isn't the Arctic). Museums, local history, diversity, top universities, sports, food, music, high rise living, art, theater arts, opera, symphony etc., for a LOT less than places like New York, SF or LA.

I was shocked that years ago when I visited, for rat shack prices by Cali standards, I could have afforded a great brownstone just off Lake Michigan on Oak Street, right in the posh area.

Not denying the flight. It's happening for sure. The Chicago vs. Detroit is nonsense though. Detroit was essentially built on a singular industry, was manage even more poorly then Chicago and then crashed. Chicago has staying power as it's much more diversified. Time will tell. But people living out in the desert will have different thoughts in the next 20 years if they're younger people.

Water is for real. If we could all live 100 more years, even Detroit will become a world class city. Too long term a prediction, but if Patnet is around in 100 years, I told ya so.

Agreed that Chicago is not Detroit, but it does have many of the same structural problems - namely it was run into the ground by unitary Democrat/Union rule. Existing industries and businesses in Illinois will try to hang on, but I can't see any new businesses wanting to open shop in Illinois with junk bond status, high taxes and such high levels of crime and dysfunction.

I'm not worried about water (I'm in the water biz), we can make all the clean water we want if we choose to through desalination. Sure it has costs to desalinate, but it is tiny compared to the money California spent in the last century building our massive water infrastructure. We are also recycling more and more of our sewage for reuse.

I've met two colleagues from the same organization who work in Chicago office. They did whine a lot about taxes (it was right after new tax code has been passed so property taxes and relevant deductions were natural point of conversation over drinks), but they said they were not interested in moving to CA (they do have this option).

No, it's not fine. It's far, far away from fine. ShitCago's private sector is shrinking. It's not gushing obviously, but it's being hollowed out by taxation. That trend isn't reversing itself anytime soon.

I understand if you have to go down with the ship and stick around, but ShitCago is not trending up. I don't understand how anyone with any long term financial goals can stick around and not be worried.

Time will tell. The downtown area, where people with money actually live, is thriving. This is indisputable. If Chicago goes south, the country as a whole is following it down the toilet bowl.

But would they move 30 minutes away to live in Wisconsin or Indiana? Pretty much the exact same weather and terrain without all the retarded Democrat dysfunction.

I was born in Chicago and travel there frequently for work. Yeah, the downtown, Lincoln Park and Wrigley area is fun for young single people with money - but you couldn't pay me enough money to go back and live that lifestyle.

Unlikely. Biggest problem for ShitCago and Illinois is high taxation and public sector burden. Companies and earners will simply relocate to other cities or states (increasing their fortunes) while decreasing the fortunes of Illinois/ShitCago.

utterly wrong.

This is a factor in why there is a pension crisis in Chicago (not enough tax contributors into the pot that were projected to be there).
