So one of our lovely GOPe Congress critters has attached a rider to the appropriations bill giving preferential immigration status to Indians with technical degrees. This is clearly a bid to help the lords of Silicon Valley replace more expensive workers with cheap Indians. But more importantly(?), it edges out potential skilled labor immigration from any other country than India due to immigration caps.

I know the GOP has been accused of racial discrimination many times in the past, but never has it been so obvious, nor so well supported by the Leftists of the Bay Area.

We don't produce enough STEM graduates, look at our rotten schools. We can't even produce enough high school graduates who can read or add. India is producing them by the truck loads. Either we import them and keep our competitive edge, or companies will simply go to India and we lose our competitive edge.
It's better to import highly skilled labor that will support our SS, rather than unskilled labor that will drain it.

In Oakland USD (where I live) the priority is to produce SJW's. Academic education is secondary at best.

Her in OP, she can immigrate any time.

Perfect. After 50 years of republicans exporting jobs and crushing wages with illegals and H workers it's all because the leftists made them do it. It has nothing at all to do with huge campaign contributions from the corporate oligarchs and revolving door politics all. Not even the least little tiny bit. You really can't make this shit up.

If its preferential to anyone w a technical degree that sounds like solid policy.

FYI, last I checked ndians make on average more than other racial group in US.

I agree with this message let's fuck Paul Ryan, McConnel and McShitstain in the Ass and demand it gets shot down.
I'm voting the Rinos out in August 28th Florida Primaries.

Nonsense constantly promoted by corporations looking to keep wages down. There are shortages due to fluctuations in demand from constantly changing needs (no one could find enough oil engineers doing the fracking boom for example) and geographic area changes, otherwise this is just a bunch of crap. https://www.bls.gov/opub/mlr/2015/article/stem-crisis-or-stem-surplus-yes-and-yes.htm

Agree with bob here. There are plenty of skilled US techies, but they typically demand higher wages and won't do endless night-shift pager duty. The difference in salary is roughly 10%-25%, and the big firms have big lawyer corps working for them anyways, so the filing labor and fees are made up for easily after less than year.

Not sure what you mean by that. My statement you quoted was in reference to this particular incidence, where big tech companies in SillyCon Valley have lobbied relentlessly for more H1bs to maximize their profits. The past few years have shown these corporations to be ruled by unrepentant Leftists, and several have Indian CEOs! Are we then expected to consider this an accident that the bought and paid for establishment GOP wants to pave the way for 200,000 Indians to come take American jobs in tech?

India and China each have 3 times the population of the US where the vast majority of whom until very recently didn't have access to getting a stem degree at all. The US is a very mature education market going back 400 years. Of course they are going to be graduating more as the standard of living increases while the US is going to have much smaller increases. Duh

Sorry to break your bubble but unrepentent leftists ceo's are a very, very tiny minority. Of the top 20 companies using h1's the first silicon valley company on the list is google at 13. Here is a list of h1 employees by city in order most to least. Silicon valley is #10.

How many American stem grads aren't working in STEM jobs?
How many have good paying jobs?

All those questions are answered. Just read the BLS article I posted.

Is it though?

I was watching an interview w Professor Michio Kaku. He mentioned that every graduate physics student in his program is foreign born. Then he mentioned that physics discoveries in the past have been key to advances in society, and perhaps in the future physics advances may be more important.

If we dont allow these foreign born physicians, these future societal advances may be discovered in china rather than here

Clearly this thread has shown that we are selecting the wrong sort of Indians for green card status. Instead of nerdy computer tech Indians of questionable hygiene and predominantly male persuasion, we need to be recruiting hot young Indian women for strip clubs!
23   Patrick   2018 Jul 28, 4:43pm

Absolutely. There is a dire shortage of that particular kind of foreign talent.
24   Reality   2018 Jul 30, 5:06am

Indian women, even pretty ones, too will get old; if their only calling card is being pretty, being in a non-native country is highly likely to make them into welfare liability in the long run. Immigrants from India with technical degrees are overwhelmingly male; statistically speaking they will soak up women who are already here instead of turning into trans women.

A significant percentage of Indians are Muslims.

Once an Indian person takes over a corporate division (often in software, finance or medicine), the subsequent hiring pattern tend to become very over-represented by Indians. That is very harmful to Americans seeking jobs in high paying professional fields.
25   HeadSet   2018 Jul 30, 6:15am

He's placed key people who are now tying up the H1-B renewal process like insisting on record numbers of Notices to Appear and other costly requirements already on the books. And they are pulling the right for the spouses of H1-B workers to get fast track for work visas themselves.

It seems the Democrats and the Unions would be all in favor of limiting H1-B visas, along with strict enforcement of the procedures. Seems Unions would also be against unfettered immigration.

HeadSet says

You would think so. But my union (and others) were all “¡Si, se puede!” when it came time to do contract talks and talk about political issues. I wonder if the reason is two-fold:
1)Immigrants tend to go blue collar which is where unions are more prevalent. This means unions are representing a significant amount of immigrants, often from an ethnicity that’s responsible for mass uncontrolled immigration.
2)Unions have traditionally been allied with Democrats and the party stance has (over time) gone full retard towards uncontrolled immigration and native population replacement.

I think unions are looking at both factors and deciding to support the Democrat platform, even though it means lower wages and reduced opportunity for Americans.
27   HeadSet   2018 Jul 30, 10:56am

Immigrants tend to go blue collar which is where unions are more prevalent.

Unions are actually more prevalent in the government sector. Here is a list of the biggest Unions:

2,731,419 National Education Association of the United States2
1,505,100 Service Employees International Union3
1,459,511 American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees
1,396,174 International Brotherhood of Teamsters3
1,311,548 United Food and Commercial Workers International Union
828,512 American Federation of Teachers

https://www.infoplease.com/business-finance/labor-unions/national-labor-organizations-membership-over-100000

It seems the Unions are less concerned about recruiting illegals into Union membership and more concerned about the traditional Union role of providing votes and money to Democrats, even when that policy hurts the current blue collar membership. This maybe why so many Union folk who always voted Democrat in the past decided to vote for Trump.
28   Shaman   2018 Jul 30, 1:26pm

Yah I know about the teachers. My wife is in that one. They’re full-on pro illegal immigrant too. Should I post a few recent letters?
