President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday that he says will keep migrant families together during detention on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Trump said he will not end the administration's "zero tolerance" policy of criminally prosecuting every adult who crosses U.S. borders illegally, including those seeking asylum.

"We're keeping families together and this will solve that problem. At the same time we are keeping a very powerful border and there continues to be a zero tolerance," Trump told reporters before he signed the order.

Prepare for gleeful proclamations of "Trump has capitulated!".
2   socal2   2018 Jun 20, 12:55pm

The Democrats are already complaining that we are going to throw children into adult detention centers with all the pedophiles and sex traffickers.

Come on Progs - just admit it. You want any child or family with children to be able to ILLEGALLY enter our country without detention.

All the human and drug smugglers need to do is make sure they kidnap a few kids with their party and they will be caught and released.

If not for the genuine outrage, nothing would have changed.

I think that's a fair adjustment- maintain the zero tolerance stance toward adults BUT make reasonable efforts to keep families together during the process.

Trump is one of the most responsive Presidents we’ve ever had. W would just chuckle and do whatever Cheney told him. Obummer would just ignore all dissent from everyone who isn’t famous. Trump, though, he can be persuaded by protests and popular opinions. That’s a good guy to have to oversee a representative government.

Now magically, and I predict, we will now move on from Russia, Stormy Daniels, Where is Melania, Kids being separated at the border by Clinton policy, to some new made up outrage that CNN commands its sheep to be angry at.

Report: “tent cities” for separated migrant children cost more than keeping them with their parents.

Newly created “tent cities” for separated children cost two to three times what it would to keep them with their parents.

Family separation at the border is not a cost-cutting measure for President Donald Trump: Newly created “tent cities” for migrant children being separated from their parents cost $775 per night per person, according to a new report. That’s two to three times what it costs to put them in a permanent facility or to keep them with their parents.

NBC News’s Julia Ainsley, citing an official at the Department of Health and Human Services, reported on Wednesday that the “tent cities” the US government is setting up to hold the influx of migrant children cost nearly $800 per night, much more than other alternatives. There’s a lot of urgency to get these temporary facilities up and running fast, and bringing in security, air conditioning, medical workers, and other government contractors at such a pace is expensive.

For comparison, NBC News reports holding a child in a permanent HHS facility in Brownsville, Texas, costs $256 per night per person. And keeping kids with their parents in a detention center costs about $298 per resident per night.

In other words, it’s most cost-effective to keep kids with their parents or, at the very least, in preexisting facilities.

Is the country tired of winning yet??

Bigger question, what will the Liberals complain about TOMORROW?

Not Genuine, 100% Political. Again, this has been happening for years, inc. under Obama, and there was no outrage.

The Democrats during the past 48 hours proposed no laws. They want the borders wide open, and will find any excuse to make it so.

But doesn't it bring the whole situation back to pre-1985 status quo?

Yep, screaming about illegals to fire up the base while making sure they don't really get deported just like always. Until so many employers go to jail that no one will hire an illegal it's all just a big smokescreen. Where are the executive arrests? Employing illegals is a crime.

I'm referring to the ACLU 1985 case re detention of minors. Not sure what your rant (comprised of 100% of canned talking points) has to do with this particular narrow legal matter.

Sounds like you agree that these "asylum" cases are mostly bullshit and people are not "fleeing gang/domestic violence" but migrating for purely economic reasons. I mean, if somebody is really fleeing from a mortal danger, does he really-really care whether he'll have a job at the safe destination? And will a person who loses his job go back to where his life is in mortal danger? The answer for both questions is obviously "no".

The ACLU pretty much admitted it today. If you bring a kid with you across the border you get off scott free!

"This executive order would replace one crisis for another. Children don’t belong in jail at all, even with their parents, under any set of circumstances. If the president thinks placing families in jail indefinitely is what people have been asking for, he is grossly mistaken.”"

I expected that move in one of my earlier posts yesterday or two days ago where I mentioned Trump needs to tread lightly and that I expect a concession/compromise here. He is outplaying the Dems at every turn. He wasn't wrong in the first place but the leftoid feelz were whipped into a frenzy shitting all over their fatherland and so he put the ball squarely back into their court. I mean, nobody wants to have any more trigglypuff sightings than absolutely necessary, really.

Yes, please start the countdown to next faux outrage. 10, 9, 8, ...

Maybe the few remaining CNN watchers are getting tired of the lame attempts at whipping up hatred for The Donald:

Out of the big three cable news networks, CNN has lost a big chunk in viewership, with the latest almost reaching 30 percent, while Fox News continues to enjoy being the most watched channel. ...

For CNN, when compared to the same week last year, they experienced an almost 30 percent drop. In 2017, they averaged 1.2 million viewers. This year, they only had around 844,000 viewers during primetime.

https://ijr.com/2018/05/1095814-cnn-viewership-plummets-30-percent/
27   mell   2018 Jun 20, 5:07pm

Note also that the lamestream media immediately reacts with the same pattern: "new order by the Donald => questions abound! => Donald must answer or is he hiding something?!" They don't even research they just automatically question everything and demand answers to make it look like it's incomplete or not a solution. Had this happened under Obummer the lamestream paper would have been deemed "rayscyst" for automatically questioning and scrutinizing the prez on every order. The fact they stayed silent when Obummer's camps where pretty much the same as those today speaks volumes of the leftoid hypocrisy and lamestream media bias. NPR was shitting over it all day today as well when in 8 years of Obummer there was no peep. Lame!

I am watching the Trump rally in MN. Trump tells the single protestor to go home to Mommy !!! I love this man. I was wrong, I wanted him to take care of jeff Sessions-if he did before the mid-terms it would have been non stop outrage. Now it is turning into an advantage and after the mid-terms he can deal with that old goat.

To the other protestor-was that a man or a woman, I couldn't tell-he needs a haircut -hahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
29   MrMagic   2018 Jun 20, 5:28pm

What the hell happened??

Total Liberal outrage by the usual suspects here yesterday regarding Trump ripping infants from their mothers and placing them in concentration camps. Now today, all we have is "crickets"..

Where did these Liberal pawns go?

Are they all waiting by their phones for the next Liberal narrative to be text to them to troll with?

I was referring to reagan pre amnesty. I forgot about flores. Which was about a policy of only releasing unauthorized unaccompanied children to their parent so I don't see how it is relevant to prosecuting families that cross together as a narrow legal point.

The truth of the total hypocrisy of the republican dealing with illegals is far from canned talking points. The conservatives have been flaming up outrage about illegals to fire up the base voters while very quietly blocking any reform to please corporate donors for many years.

Including trump. The wall is strictly meat for the base. Over 2/3's of illegals are visa overstayers who entered the US perfectly legally. How will the wall stop them? How will zero tolerance policy at the border stop them. Where are all the news events about tracking them down? How many employers have been criminally prosecuted to discourage hiring of illegals under trump? Where are all the big speeches from trump about the criminal employers? Just a big political show as always. The only difference is Trump is a much bigger showman.

What party it that? i'm independent formerly republican. Republicans control both houses. How many mandatory usage of e verify bills have they introduced under Trump? Zero. The legal workforce act with mandatory e-verify has been introduced every session since 2011 and has gone nowhere every time. It has never made it out of committee. Republican chaired and majority committee. You do remember it's been a republican congress since 2010 don't you? Someone slipped mandatory e verify into the 2019 budget proposal. Want to bet some serious money it won't be there when congress finishes the budget? Which party is it that is blocking common sense immigration reform?

Don't let facts screw up good bit of nonsense partisan demagoguery though.

Asylum seekers is just another bullshit political theatre straw man. Not that many people at the border are asylum seekers. The US only took in 85,000 asylum seekers in 2016 and only granted asylum to 26,000. That was for the entire world, not just the mexican border. The border patrol grabs over half a million people a year for christ sakes. Getting past the “credible fear” test has always been hard and sessions has made it much harder.

Yet you never seem to have nary a bad word about Democrats when they oppose "common sense" immigration reform. This week we have Democrats like Kamala Harris saying that no illegal alien family should ever be detained if caught by ICE sneaking across the border. That is basically total open borders. All a human or drug smuggler needs is to carry a kid with them.

I've already conceded that some Republican Chamber of Commerce types are against E-Verify, but the majority of Republicans are for it. E-Verify doesn't get out of committee because they know they can't get enough Democrat votes in the House and Senate once out of committee.
